Don’t Kill Thousands of Stray Dogs in Guam

Target: Eddie Baza Calvo, Governor of Guam

Goal: Demand Guam’s stray dog outbreak be solved humanely in all ways.

Guam is currently overrun with stray dogs, a whopping 250,000 to be precise. The island’s laws may soon require owners to spay and neuter their dogs, as well as pay a $100 fee should they wish to breed their female dogs. However, this does little to aid and protect the existing homeless and suffering dogs.

The majority of these dogs are captured humanely and taken to the animal shelter, but are euthanized if they are not adopted within three days. This is too short a waiting period for adoption, which could mean the deaths of thousands of dogs without giving them a chance to find a home. Additionally, the dogs who are not picked up by the shelter are at risk of death from diseases, wild animal attacks, or humans who see them as a threat.

We must not only support the island’s pending laws requiring owners to spay and neuter their pets, but demand protection for the existing dogs. Sign this petition to demand stray dogs be given a longer waiting period at the shelter and that the dogs still roaming the island be protected from unnecessary death.

Dear Governor Calvo,

Your island’s stray dog outbreak is reaching critical mass, despite all efforts to trap the dogs and find them homes. Dogs not adopted within three days are put to death, while those still roaming the island are at risk of deadly attacks or diseases claiming their lives.

A law is pending that will require owners to spay, neuter, and microchip their pets in addition to paying a $100 fee if they wish to breed their female dogs. You must ensure that this law passes to prevent future outbreaks of homelessness among dogs, and you must also work to protect the dogs already facing possible euthanasia or other terrible fates. Dogs are living creatures just as we are, and they deserve to be safe and healthy.

  1. What’s wrong with the world shouldn’t be allowed to breed only permit breeders and must be desexed before new owner.

  2. I would love to have this poor baby in this picture what’s the matter with this sick country to allow this cruelty but of course they don’t care do they just like all the asian countries cruel cruel

    • I completely agree – I want to take care of the baby in the picture. How could anyone in Guam walk past something like this and not feed and help those in need????

  4. Prevent the suffering of helpless and innocent animals, merely attempting survival!
They need compassion and empathy–not ignorant cruelty!

  5. Neuter, neuter, neuter!!! The numbers will fall and keep falling until the situation is manageable. Rely on modern methods- not Kill,Kill,Kill!!!
