Thank Police Officers for Rescuing Chihuahua

Target: Police Commissioner Joseph A. Farrow and the California Highway Patrol Officers

Goal: Thank highway patrol officers for rescuing a small chihuahua from the highway

California Highway Patrol officers received an urgent call that a small puppy was running between traffic lanes on the freeway in Walnut Creek, California. When officers got to the scene, they saw the tiny puppy hanging on a highway median. All of this was happening during one of the most dangerous times of the day to be on the highway: rush hour. The chihuahua was terrified as the officers approached it on the side of the highway. They gently lured the dog to safety by offering the dog one of their protein snack bars.

The Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez, California are now caring for the chihuahua. They are waiting for the owner to come forward or else they will put the dog up for adoption. Fortunately, the puppy did not appear to be injured or suffering from any ailments. The dog wasn’t wearing a collar or a name tag, but has been confirmed to be two years old.

Animals involved in vehicle accidents happen quite often, so it’s best for drivers to be alert when they are faced with a confused animal on the highway. Highways often cut through the natural habitats of wild animals, but it is not unusual for a domesticated animal to run away and find itself trapped on a dangerous highway or intersection. No one knows whether the dog ran away from its owners or if the poor animal was abandoned.

Please sign this petition to thank the California Highway Patrol officers who responded to this emergency and were able to rescue the little chihuahua and bring it to safety.

Dear Commissioner Farrow and the California Highway Patrol Officers,

Thank you for your diligent work in saving the little chihuahua that was stranded on the freeway median in Walnut Creek, CA. Although we don’t know how the dog got on the freeway, we are glad that it is now safe and in the hands of the Contra Costa County Animal Services Center. While it is saddening to think that the dog’s owner may have purposefully abandoned the chihuahua on the busy highway, thankfully the animal was unharmed. It truly is a miracle that the dog survived the rush hour traffic.

Animals are constantly being injured on the highway due to car collision accidents, so thank you all for helping this small dog get back to safety.

Thank you officers — you made my day!
Many animals are abandoned along highways. endangering their lives and also those of the drivers. There should be a very stiff penalty or even jail time applied against this practice.
