Success: Mittens Donated for Burned Koalas

Target: Josey Sharrad, Native Wildlife Campaigner for the International Fund for Animal Welfare

Goal: Applaud the success of donated koala mittens that inspired idea for donations of pouches for kangaroos

In a previous petition, the public was asked to help make and donate mittens specifically for koalas to help protect their paws as they recover from injuries caused by bush fires in Australia. The public appeal for koala mitten donations worked so well, the International Fund for Animal Welfare is now asking the public to help make and donate pouches for misplaced baby kangaroos and wallabies.

The kindness and generosity of the public has worked in favor for the koalas suffering from burns caused by bush fires. The International Fund for Animal Welfare has received an almost overwhelming amount of koala mittens and has realized that many more animals, such as wallabies and kangaroos, can benefit from the public’s willingness to help. Instead of koala mittens, the International Fund for Animal Welfare is now turning its attention towards misplaced baby wallabies and kangaroos, also known as joeys.

These baby wallabies and joeys need a soft and warm environment to rest and feel safe. Without the overwhelming success of the koala mittens, the idea of donated pouches for baby wallabies and joeys would probably have taken a bit longer to conceive. Sign this petition and applaud the success of donated koala mittens and hope for equal success for the donated kangaroo pouches.

Dear Josey Sharrad,

I am ecstatic to hear about the overwhelming participation of the public regarding the donation of koala mittens. I’m sure the koalas appreciate the mittens very much. I would also like to praise the idea of asking the public to make and donate pouches for baby wallabies and joeys.

I feel like that is a really great example of making the most of what you’ve got. The public is more than happy to contribute as long as it benefits the animals and the animals are on the receiving end of the public’s kindness and generosity. This is a win-win situation.

I am so happy that the koala mitten donations were such a success, even though there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that they were ever going to be unsuccessful. I hope history repeats itself in this case, and you receive yet another overwhelming donation from the public in the form of wallaby and kangaroo pouches.
