Expose Vet Who Kept Dog Alive After Claiming to Euthanize Him

Target: Dr. Lou Tierce, veterinarian

Goal: Expose the doctor for keeping a supposedly euthanized animal alive in terrible conditions after lying to the dog’s family

Veterinarian Dr. Lou Tierce of Fort Worth, Texas, is being accused of keeping a family’s dog alive in the back room of his office after telling them he had been euthanized. According to the Marian Harris, the dog’s owner, the veterinarian told them their five-year-old Leonberger, Sid, had a congenital spine defect. The family decided to euthanize Sid instead of making him suffer.

However the family later received a call from a former veterinary technician at the practice, Mary Brewer, who said Sid was still alive. The family found Sid in Dr. Tierce’s back room in a cage and covered in feces. The veterinarian had been using him as an animal blood donor for six months, after telling the family he had put the dog to sleep.

The family was horrified at the abuse but overjoyed to have their dog back. They immediately took him to another veterinarian for a second opinion. “He could not find a blood vein on this dog,” the family’s attorney, Jim Eggleston says. “There was evidence this dog has been bled–a lot.” This veterinarian conducted an exam and found that Sid had mange, but no evidence of the defect Dr. Tierce had indicated.

Texas authorities seized several other dogs from the vet practice. Brewer says there was also a cat that Dr. Tierce was supposed to put down. Dr. Tierce is facing possible criminal charges and the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners will hold an emergency meeting soon regarding the case. He claims that the family wanted to put down a healthy dog and that he could not bear it, so he kept the dog alive. He called the allegations “a bunch of hooey.” Harris’ attorney said he was told the findings during the raid were consistent with what the former employee alleged, but the investigators would not confirm.

Regardless of whether Harris should have put down the dog or not, Dr. Tierce is in the wrong. Sid’s condition is despicable. Expose this veterinarian for his treatment of this poor animal.

Dear Dr. Tierce,

What has happened to Sid, the Leonberger that you did not euthanize when you said you would, is despicable. The poor dog’s condition is terrible because you kept him in a crate for six months after lying to his owners. The fact that a supposed animal lover and veterinarian would allow an animal to suffer like Sid has is unthinkable.

No one expects a veterinarian to treat an animal cruelly. Your blatant abuse of this dog is criminal, and should be treated as such.

How any veterinarian could do such a horrific thing to the very animals he is supposed to be treating is incomprehensible! I cannot imagine how the owner’s of these beloved pets feel. To mourn the loss of your beloved pet is so difficult…only to find this MONSTER never euthanized your pet and it was alive and living in filth and being used for blood transfusions so this scumbag vet could cut corners. My heart goes out to the owners. Let it be a wake up call, however. If you love your pet, NEVER dump them off with any vet to be euthanized. I have gone through this heartbreaking ordeal more than I care, but never ONCE did I leave my precious, beloved baby with the vet to be euthanized and just walk away! I stayed with my babies throughout the entire procedure; I spent every moment with my babies before, during and after they were euthanized! I then took them to be cremated. Their ashes are in beautiful marble urns with inscriptions on each. There are many places that do ‘individual’ cremations at little cost. If you cannot afford an urn, you will receive their ashes in a very nice plastic urn that you can keep forever. There are also many ‘pet cemeteries’ where there is perpetual care. If you simply take your beloved pet in to be put down and walk away, you don’t know what becomes of them. They could wind up in the hands of an unscrupulous MONSTER like this vet and if the are indeed put down, their bodies are thrown away in a dumpster piled high with other deceased animals
