Target: Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee
Goal: Demand harsh punishment for couple who abused and neglected 14 horses in their care
Florida ranch owner Humberto DeJesus and his partner Dale Jahnke-Davis have been charged with two felony counts and 12 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty after officers discovered abused mares on the couple’s ranch. All of the horses were allegedly found emaciated and one unfortunately died due to a long period of neglect.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough investigation of the couple’s Little Cherokee Ranch and found a total of 14 malnourished horses on the property. According to a sheriff’s report, the horses had lost an extremely high percentage of their normal body fat, indicating that there was “excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain and suffering.” Additionally, one of the neglected colts had died and another had a broken tail that was left untreated for a long period of time. None of the horses had ever been given adequate medical or dental care. It is unclear whether the horses were removed from the property or continue to reside at the ranch.
Please sign this petition to ensure that DeJesus and Jahnke-Davis will be punished to the highest degree that the law allows, if found guilty, and demand that the couple’s right to own more animals in the future is revoked.
Dear Sheriff David Gee,
Humberto DeJesus and Dale Jahnke-Davis were arrested for neglecting and abusing 14 horses in their care at the Little Cherokee Ranch. One colt died and the rest were found emaciated and suffering from injuries that could have been treated if the couple cared enough to seek veterinary care. It makes little sense to me as to why this couple would decide to maintain a horse ranch when they clearly have no regard for their animals’ precious lives.
This was an abuse that took a long time to carry out. These innocent horses were deliberately starved and in pain for so long. On top of punishing DeJesus and Jahnke-Davis with the maximum sentence, I am urging you to make sure that these people will never be allowed to own another animal. If given the opportunity to run another ranch or even own a pet, it is likely that they will continue their pattern of neglect and abuse. No animal deserves that fate. Please protect harmless, innocent animals from falling into their hands.
