Praise Community Action to Stop Animal Abuse

Target: Lauren Buglino of Team Charlotte

Goal: Thank an animal welfare group for raising money for homeless animals and taking action against abusers

Team Charlotte, a small animal welfare group recently formed in Staten Island, NY, continues to combat animal cruelty. Its most recent accomplishment was a holiday toy drive that raised over $1,000, which will be donated to local shelters. The group is a testament to what can happen when communities get together to save animals.

Team Charlotte’s next endeavor will be to rally at the trial of Alsu Ivanchenko, a woman accused of abandoning her Maltese-Shih Tsu mix puppy, now named Charlotte. The group formed after Charlotte was found. She was only three months old when rescuers discovered her badly beaten in a discarded plastic shopping bag. Dr. Robert Reisman of the ASPCA examined Charlotte and determined she had a fractured skull, a fractured femur, and brain trauma. Thankfully, Charlotte survived after more than a month of intensive medical care,

Even after her recovery, a group of animal rights activists continued to fight for justice. A petition calling for the maximum sentence for Ivanchenko that generated 200,000 signatures formed the basis for Team Charlotte. “When I became part of the Facebook group ‘Justice For Charlotte’ I saw the passion and determination behind all the members,” said Lauren Buglino. “I started this online petition not only so we can be the voice of defenseless animals, but so we can create awareness and take a local story, like Charlotte’s, to global levels.”

Team Charlotte has yet to announce what its next pursuit will be, but we can be sure there will be many more to come. As it states on its fliers: “Let’s not only do this for Charlotte, but ALL of the defenseless animals that have been abused and/or killed as a result. Our animal abuse laws NEED to be stricter and the penalties need to be more severs. We need to be the voice for the voiceless–otherwise, the abuse will never stop.”

Please take a moment to sign the petition below and thank Team Charlotte for its incredible effort and for proving that when communities get together they can make significant changes in the lives of all animals.

Dear Ms. Buglino,

As one of the founding supporters of Justice for Charlotte, now Team Charlotte, you drafted a petition that generated 200,000 signatures in the hope of ensuring that the abuser of the group’s namesake would receive the most severe sentence possible. Even after Charlotte fully recovered, the group continued working to help animals by having a toy drive that raised more than $1,000. Later this year, you will rally at Alsu Ivancheko’s second court hearing and raise your voices about animal cruelty.

Thank you so much for the incredible work you have done. Team Charlotte is truly a testament to what can be achieved when members of a community get together for the sake of helping other lives.
