Stop Mass Elephant Slaughter

Target: Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa

Goal: Urge African leaders to put an end to elephant poaching and the country’s lucrative ivory export business

Numerous residents of Africa have recently addressed their government in efforts to stop the massive slaughter of elephants and harvest of ivory. Every day 100 elephants are slaughtered in Africa. Each illegally slaughtered elephant pushes the species to extinction. Concerned citizens of Africa, as well as influential people from other nations, have approached the African government about this issue in hopes that Africa’s elephants will soon be viciously protected. However, the government has reciprocated nothing but silence.

The majority of illegal ivory seizures occur in the African countries of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Much of the ivory is acquired to sell to China, where superstitious consumers will pay a lot of money to own the delicacy. There are areas where the slaughter is heavily concentrated, such as a Tanzanian park, which experienced a 67 percent decline in its elephant population in only four years. Other areas of the continent are experiencing a near elephant extinction, such as South Sudan. Baby elephant populations are at high risk of being kidnapped and sold to circuses and zoos worldwide.

Leaders of Africa could have a strong influence on the fate of elephants, if only they would act. Sign this petition to stand with the citizens of Africa and demand action and compassion from Africa’s leaders. The elephants cannot save themselves.

Dear President Zuma,

Africa’s elephants are in danger. Whether or not Africa wishes to acknowledge the problem, there is a chance that the continent’s elephants may be poached to extinction. Many influential leaders of other nations, such as Hilary Clinton and Prince William, have approached you and other leaders in Africa on behalf of the elephants. These influential people, as well as millions of your citizens, want to see Africa’s elephants live and flourish.

President Zuma, I urge you to make a difference in the lives of Africa’s elephants. Please organize intense efforts to stabilize the elephant population. You have the power to stop illegal poaching in its tracks, if only you would tirelessly make changes happen.

Please do not let the elephants of Africa perish. Start aggressive funding to save the elephants, and stop poachers through the power of compassion, money and people power. I know that your citizens would do all they could to help the elephants, if only you were to ask.
