Applaud Filmmaker for Exposing Cruel Pig Farm

pig farm

Target: Filmmaker Mark Devries

Goal: Applaud exposure of filth and irresponsibility of large pig farm operation

North Carolina is home to over 2,ooo pig farms. Each of those farms contains thousands of pigs, many of which cannot even turn around due to how crowded the living space is. One filmmaker, Mark Devries, driven by curiosity and compassion, decided to fly a drone over one of these operations to see just how awful the conditions were for the animals, the neighboring homes and people. What he found was appalling, dangerous and environmentally irresponsible.

The farm investigated by the drone, like many other similar farms, has a large man-made lagoon situated close to the sheds where the pigs are kept. When the pigs defecate or urinate, the waste falls through a grate that the pigs stand on, and is then transferred to the large lagoon. The lagoon can only hold so much and must be emptied periodically. Numerous interviews with the local people revealed that the waste is displaced onto nearby fields and neighboring homes through a sprinkler system. Not surprisingly, respiratory issues such as asthma are extremely common in the area.

Consumers are becoming more aware of the plight of factory farmed animals with each passing day. Filmmakers such as Devries are necessary to implement change within the system. Sign this petition to applaud Devries for exposing this particular farm and continuing the movement of gaining better animal welfare standards.

Dear Mr. Devries,

I am writing to thank you for your brave exposure of a Smithfield Farms’ subdivision pig farm. This farm is home to thousands of pigs that are crammed, with little space to move around, into the white sheds seen in your film. While the disregard for each individual pig’s life is appalling, the people who live near this factory farm are treated with little to no respect.

Humans, no matter their financial or social status, do not deserve to be showered with the fecal matter of pigs. The people near this Smithfield Farm operation do not deserve to suffer from debilitating respiratory issues, including chronic asthma. These people need a voice, and they need to have their story told in order for this madness to end; you are their instrument.

Thank you for protecting the lives of people and animals when no one else has. Your efforts may seem small when faced with this large-scale problem. However, your efforts are gigantic and will help these people and animals live better lives.

    Boycott Smithfield. Simple.

  2. Astrid, Gerjets says:

  3. Smithfield Farms was purchased by a chinese company and we all know what little respect they have for animal life. People need to be educated as to what is happening on these factory farms. If they saw these horrors with their own eyes perhaps it would be the beginning of a better world for us all. Animals should have the same rights that humans do.

  4. Karen Remnant says:

Mark Devries – hero! Hopefully changes will now be made.

  5. Linda Peterson says:

Don’t buy Smithfield and hopefully they will be charged with horrific abuse and they need to be shut down for such cruelty. Thank you Mark DeVries for coming forward with the video. People are getting fed up with the horrific torture of these innocent victims and the ones doing it need to be held responsible and closed down.

  6. I have stopped eating meat because of the cruelty, when I walk past a Butchers or past the meat in the super market I only see dead animals, I dont even want to look at it, I will never eat meat again, it is not hard when you know what that animal has gone through, please everyone stop eating meat
