Target: Peter Dinklage
Goal: Commend actor for combating cruelty by educating the public about inhumane farming factory methods
Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage recently teamed up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to release a video exposé of the meat and dairy industry to promote veganism. The video, titled “Face Your Food” gives viewers a glimpse into the everyday torture that factory farm animals endure at the hands of humans. Commend Dinklage for his activism.
Peter Dinklage became at vegetarian at age 16 and later went vegan in protest of cruel and unnecessary forms of factory farming. In PETA’s newly released 3 minute exposé, Dinklage explains why veganism is important in today’s culture and reveals the ways in which humans have cruelly transformed sentient animals into food objects. Many animal rights activists believe that veganism would grow in popularity if the majority of the population faced the horrors of factory farming. The truth is, most make the choice to look away, and while this choice is easy, it is not right. Dinklage adds a disclaimer in the introduction of the film alerting the audience that though they will see unpleasant images, “this is what you pay for every time you buy meat, eggs, and dairy products.”
Dinklage has said in the past that he is not okay with factory farming because the meat industry bends over backwards to hide the fact that it treats animals like “unfeeling machinery.” In many interviews, he highlights the incongruity our society practices by caring for our cats and dogs but allowing our farm animals, creatures with the same levels of intelligence and abilities to feel pain, to suffer greatly.
While Dinklage has already done much to combat animal farming, and also testing, it is his down-to-earth demeanor and respected image that make him such a rare and successful activist. Thank Peter Dinklage for his message in this film, and encourage him to continue to promote veganism to our American society.
Dear Peter Dinklage,
I want to thank you for your commendable efforts to raise awareness about the cruelty of factory farming. Your message in PETA’s recently released exposé ”Face Your Food” is a respectful challenge to America’s tolerance towards animal cruelty in factory farms, and your down-to-earth demeanor can help educate and persuade our nation to face cruelty and eventually fight against it instead of turn away.
Too often, our society is unwilling to listen to the truth because they do not want to hear unpleasant details about animal torture and exploitation. Yet the truth, if it comes from a respected and well-liked public figure, can make a huge difference. Your presence in this movement can turn the radical notion that farm animals deserve kindness into a norm. Thank you for what you have done for these creatures, and I hope that you will continue to promote veganism and the humane treatment of animals in your future films and writings.
