Target: The Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Program
Goal: Encourage The Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Program to continue to raise awareness and fight against the common practice of Pangolin trafficking
Pangolins are the most trafficked animals on earth and are rapidly becoming extinct because of this. However, this issue is highly under the radar disabling any serious advocacy or action against the practice. Immediate awareness and action is imperative for the survival of these endangered creatures.
Pangolins are a unique species, often alternatively referred to as the scaly anteater. They are scaly, long-tongued creatures who are native to tropical regions of Asia and Africa. Over the past several years, this species has become the most trafficked in the world. A recent report based on just one trafficking incident revealed that 22,000 Pangolins had been killed over a 21 month period. The Pangolin trade is extremely lucrative at about 6 billion dollars a year. 500 grams of the creature’s valuable scales can be sold for about $350. The animals are used for fashion, food and medicine which validates their high demand, however this practice is illegal and is causing these creatures to go extinct. The Pangolin also only gives birth to one offspring every year, further lessening their likelihood for survival.
The Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Program has been working to conserve these dwindling creatures, however, they need to take further serious actions if they wish to save these creatures.
Please sign the petition below to encourage The Carnivore and Pangolin Program to continue urgent efforts to save the rapidly diminishing Pangolin species.
Dear Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Program,
As you are well aware, the Pangolin species is the most highly trafficked species in the world and are quickly becoming extinct. However, this issue is not nearly as renowned as the trafficking of several other species like elephants. Many people have never even heard of the Pangolin. We need to raise awareness in order to save this species from extinction.
The Pangolin trade is a very lucrative industry as the Pangolins have several uses to humans. This industry is so valuable to humans that it makes about 6 billion dollars per year. We understand that this high demand makes it even more difficult to stop the trafficking, but it is important that further efforts be made.
We would like you thank you for your continual efforts to preserve the Pangolin community. We also would like to encourage you to continue with these efforts as well as construct new strategies to raise awareness and end the terrible industry of Pangolin trafficking.
