Target: Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj
Goal: Help save the unique Pallas’s Cat from slaughter
The Pallas’s cat, also known as a manul, is a unique wild cat found in Central Asia known to be hunted for its fur. While most countries that the cat lives in have made it illegal, one country has not. Mongolia is the only country where hunting and killing Pallas’s cats is still legal. Failure to make this slaughtering illegal has led to numerous killings of these cats and needs to be stopped.
Before the hunting of this species became illegal, trade for its pelts was common in Central Asia. This in combination with other environmental factors contributed to the decline of the Pallas’s cat’s population. While not an endangered species, the continued hunting of this animals has left it as a near threatened species since 2002.
If no action is taken to make the hunting of this cat totally illegal, it is possible that the population could steadily decline. If nothing is done to ensure its protection, it could also become an endangered species. More must be done to protect this cat and prevent it from becoming a threatened species. By signing the petition below, you will be urging the Mongolian President to make the unnecessary killing and hunting of the Pallas’s cat illegal so that its survival can be ensured.
Dear President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj,
The Pallas’s cat, also known as the manul, is a unique wild cat found in your country. Its population is threatened due to environmental factors that affect its habitat. It also preyed upon by other animals because of its small size. However, despite these things, there is another major factor affecting the species.
While the Pallas’s cat is also known to live in other neighboring countries, Mongolia is the only country where the Pallas’s cat is not protected by law. Because of this, killing and hunting the cat remains legal and continues to threaten the population of the species.
While the cat is not listed as an endangered species, it is near threatened. If no action is taken, it is possible that the species’ population could be driven down to a point where it becomes endangered. I urge you to implement protection for the Pallas’s cat to prevent the unnecessary killing of this precious creature.
