Target: Adam Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA
Goal: Commend Born Free USA for finding a creative, compassionate, and awareness-raising means of using old furs
Born Free USA has long been one of the world’s foremost nonprofit organizations dedicated to the advocacy of animal rights and welfare. One of their main, and most worthy, causes has been their fight to eliminate the immoral fur trade. Born Free USA should be commended for their new “Fur for the Animals” drive, which will provide individuals with a compassionate option as to what to do with their old furs.
The global fur industry is responsible for the mistreatment and slaughter of millions of animals each year. Either trapped in the wild or raised on factory farms, animals victimized by the fur trade suffer greatly before they are murdered and skinned and turned into fashion items that no consumer really needs. Born Free USA tries to raise public awareness about the horrors of the fur trade in an attempt to reduce the demand for furs in the retail/wholesale market as well as the tacit acceptance of fur in the fashion industry. And now they will allow conscientious consumers to dispose of old furs in a way that actually helps alleviate animal suffering.
“Fur for the Animals,” according to the Born Free USA web site, “is a donation drive to collect coats, hats, and other accessories made from animal fur and donate them to wildlife rehabilitation centers across the country. The facilities will use them to provide familiar comfort, warmth, and bedding to injured, young, and sick wildlife in their care.” By emphasizing animal care over profit and animal suffering, the donation drive will help Born Free USA spread the message that consumers should spend compassionately and not purchase furs.
By signing the petition below you will commend Adam Roberts and the entire Born Free USA organization for implementing the “Fur for the Animals” donation drive, for raising more consumer awareness about the fur trade, and for reducing animal suffering in the world.
Dear Adam Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA,
I was heartened to hear of Born Free USA’s new “Fur for the Animals” donation drive. I like the fact that animal welfare advocates and compassionate consumers will have the option to donate old furs and that those furs will be used to care for sick animals housed in wildlife rehabilitation centers around the country. As you well know, the fur trade causes untold animal suffering and is essentially unnecessary. By emphasizing animal care over profit and animal suffering, this drive should raise more awareness about the immorality of the fur trade and encourage consumers to spend more compassionately and not purchase furs.
Thank you for imagining and implementing this creative and compassionate donation drive. A drive that will undoubtedly go a long way towards alleviating the suffering of animals.
