Justice for 115 Dogs Reportedly Kept for Dog Fighting

Target: Jack Browning, District Attorney of Polk, County, Georgia

Goal: Seek the maximum possible sentence for couple who allegedly kept 115 dogs for dog fighting purposes.

Over 100 dogs were found in a home where police say they were being kept for the purposes of dog fighting. Investigators searched the home a second time, only to find even more dogs. The owners, 32-year-old, Devecio Rowland, and 34-year-old, Candice Sorrells face animal cruelty charges.

A mother and seven puppies were taken in by animal control. Polk County Animal Control Director, Jeff Crawford said the department is trying to find rescue groups to take some of the dogs. Rowland reportedly refused to sign over the dogs. An emergency hearing to determine the fate of the 35 dogs is coming up.  Please add your signature to the petition below to demand that these innocent dogs get the justice they deserve.

People who are involved in the cruel practice of dog fighting receive monetary gains from their cruelty, and therefore, they’re extremely likely to become repeat offenders. That is why it’s imperative that the punishment for these animal abusers is severe enough to prevent them from fighting dogs. Please add your signature to the petition below to demand that this couple be punished to the maximum extent possible.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Browning,

A couple was arrested after 100 dogs were found in their home. The dogs were being kept for the purpose of dog fighting, said investigators. After the investigators returned to the home a second time, they found even more dogs, including a mother with seven puppies.

The owners are refusing to sign over the dogs, and an emergency hearing is scheduled to determine their fate. We, the undersigned, demand that this couple be banned permanently from owning animals and given the maximum penalty possible if guilty.

Sincerely,

  1. Don’t crap around with these fools. If they were human children in danger, Child Protective Service would remove them that day and rightfully so. Well these four legged children are in danger. Police, government do your job!!! Then let the court finalize the results which I hope will be true justice.

  2. this whole people need to sign there animals over is total crap and shouldnt b a law if an animal is in danger it should be the law that police or animal agencies take them straight away. total bullshit saying the owner has the right to decide to sign them over what about the animals rights??

  3. Rebecca Martello says:

Really? Animal Control is having difficulty seizing these dogs? Cut the nonsense hearing and enforce animal cruelty laws. Here are some suggestions for you, Polk County. Unless they are a licensed and verified breeding operation, I have no doubt there is a law specifying the number of animals that a person is allowed to have. I’m positive that number is well below 115! How about seizing them based on violation of animal licensing laws? Have a vet examine a random sampling of the dogs. I’m POSITIVE they’ll come back with parasite infestations, fleas, etc. There’s your cause…animal neglect, because I doubt sincerely they’ve wormed or vaccinated a 115 dogs. SEIZE those dogs and ask the public for volunteer help if necessary. You KNOW they’re being used for dog fighting in some capacity, either as fighters or bait.

  4. Margaret Melnick says:

How can anyone who is running a dog fighting ring which is ileagel refuse to turn over the dogs? Charge them with animal cruelty and throw in interfering with an investigation and anything else you can think of. Get the dogs out of their care now.

  5. these people have no soul—THEY WORSHIP MONEY AT THE COST OF THESE POOR DOG’S LIVES–CONFISCATE ALL THEIR ANIMALS AND FINE THEM–BECAUSE THE WILL CONTINUE THIS PRACTICE MIN ANOTHER PLACE.

  6. HELL AWAITS THE CRUEL ANIMAL ABUSERS NOW. 25 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON NOW.
