Applaud Plans to Reintroduce Endangered Tigers

Target: Askar Myrzakmatov, Agricultural Minister of Kazakhstan

Goal: Applaud plans to reintroduce wild tigers and the creation of a protected natural area in Kazakhstan.

By the year 2025, Kazakhstan could be home to wild tigers for the first time in over 70 years. With less than 4,000 of the big cats left in the wild, this reintroduction campaign could play a huge role in tiger conservation overall. This move marks a bold step, the first of its kind in Central Asia, which will hopefully inspire other countries to make animal conservation a priority.

As part of the plan, Kazakhstan will be working with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to secure a space in the remote Ili-Balkhash region and modify it with the reintroduction of several prey species, including the endangered Bactrian deer and the kulan, a type of wild donkey. Once the reserve is ready and strategies are in place for tracking down potential poachers, a number of Amur tigers from Russia will be introduced on lands that have not seen tigers for generations.

The creation of this natural area will not only benefit tigers, but will help ensure that this unique ecosystem is preserved for years to come. Thank the government of Kazakhstan for its commitment to the environment by signing below.

Dear Minister Myrzakmatov,

It has been 70 years since wild tigers roamed the forests of Kazakhstan. Your recent decision to partner with the World Wildlife Fund and reintroduce these majestic cats will help ensure a future not only for tigers, but for many other species such as the Bactrian deer and the kulan. We applaud your efforts to make conservation a top priority for Kazakhstan, and hope that the creation of this reserve in the Ili-Balkhash region will inspire other countries to similarly protect remaining wild and unspoiled areas.

We are hopeful that the world tiger population will continue to rebound and that some of the historic range for these big cats will be reclaimed. Thanks to you, they now have a chance at a much brighter future.

Your plans and decision to reintroduce, then protect these tigers into the wild at a time when numerous countries are passing laws to kill so many wild animals, truly makes you a world leader. You have set an example that we can only hope others will follow.
    My most sincere thanks.

  3. Very strange if SOMEONE is able to act in a reasonable and humane way!
