Justice for Tiger Shot by Police

Target: Mike Ireland, Captain of the Henry County Police Department of Georgia

Goal: Justice for Bengal tiger shot by police.

A Bengal tiger spotted in a Georgia neighborhood was reportedly shot and killed by the police. The animal was reportedly spotted chasing after a nearby woman’s pet dog with the intent to attack, prompting the officers to fire immediately. The cops alerted animal control, but were unable to wait for their arrival.

While the tiger’s presence was indeed dangerous to the dog, ending its life was a cruel and unnecessary measure. There are far better and more humane ways to curb a wild animal’s dangerous tendencies, such as a tranquilizer dart. Bengal tigers are extremely rare nowadays, and whether or not this one had dangerous intentions, it did not deserve to die.

The need to protect families and their pets is understandable, but wild animals are suffering and dying in greater numbers every day. It is never acceptable to kill one when a more humane option is always present. Sign this petition to demand the police face a penalty for killing this animal.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Captain Ireland,

A group of officers on your force reportedly shot and killed a rare Bengal tiger. While the tiger was on private property and had the intention to “make a homeowner’s dog lunch,” ending its life was cruel and unnecessary. There are far better ways to subdue a dangerous wild animal, such as tranquilizer darts.

This may not be the crime of the century, but Bengal tigers are one of the most vulnerable species on this planet, and there have been too many wildlife killings in recent years. Your officers’ intentions were noble, but it is never acceptable to murder a wild animal.

Please issue a penalty for this reported killing, and ensure that your officers carry non-lethal subjugation methods for future encounters such as this.

Sincerely,

  1. MUST USE TRANQUILIZERS WHEN DEALING WITH RUNAWAY WILDLIFE TO SAVE IT NOW. BAD TO SHOOT IT NOW.

  2. This was over kill and should have never happened. Can these cops not shoot to stop AND NOT TO KILL EVERY TIME THEY HOLD A GUN IN THEIR HANDS!!! I GUESS NOT AS YOU HEAR OVER AND OVER AGAIN HOW COPS SHOOT BELOVED DOGS ALL THE TIME AND THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE KILLINGS!!

THIS MUST STOP AND STOP NOW!! THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS WATCHING!!! STOP THE INSANITY!!

This is a perfect example of WHY private ownership of big cats should be outlawed! Moronic idiots purchase these cats on a whim or as status symbol, but have no idea how to look after them in any way. These animals need fresh meat every couple of days, they need miles of open spaces to hunt swim and climb trees…. They are not someones toy or big pussy cat! They are wild animals that are meant to be in the wild and free from human beings.
Why is it always these animals that get the death sentence, when dumb humans are clearly the ones at fault. Please stop this as there are alternatives… Use them.
IFAW are petitioning to halt private ownership of these wild Big Cats… please support them, and save lives.

In this case it was not due to private ownership. The animal escaped during a transport from a traveling circus. These animals have the right to live. It is sad that the only thing this tiger ever did wrong was escape to freedom. I say let the cat eat the dog. Dogs kill cats all the time and no one does anything. I have lost several cats to vicious dogs. Some of those cats were in enclosures and the pit bulls broke in. Three years later those pit bulls are still running the streets and killing the ferals that I feed. Don’t say to get the law involved, they don’t do anything except eat their donuts.

  4. In the article I read the officers had no choice but to shoot the tiger as the tiger was attacking a dog after jumping the fence into the dog’s yard. As a rule, police officers don’t carry tranquilizer darts around in their arsenal. The officers were hoping they could wait for animal control, who evidently had a tranq gun with them, but with the dog’s life at stake they did the only thing they could do to protect the dog and community. This particular “call for justice” is one that will not get my signature. The officers did nothing wrong! They don’t carry tranquilizers with them! A dog’s death was imminent! The public was in danger! Use common sense, people!

I agree,we need to petion that officers carry a tranquilizer dart gun.
To many animals do get shot by officers and die. This story unfortunately won’t get my signature neither.
I do think officers should carry tranquilizer bc they come in contact with these kind of situations more than we know. I read a story the other day that an officer shot a dog because he felt threatened -the tranquilizer gun would have done the job in that situation as well .Let’s get a petition Police officers should indeed carry tranquilizer guns/ darts in the vehicle with them… of course after being trained to use them in a professional manner.

Tiger had a right to live and it wasn’t the tigers fault it was being imprisoned for public amusement. It is natural for the tiger to get hungry and go after the dog. After all, it is a tiger not a house cat. Murder the tiger for being a tiger. Does not seem fair to me. Dogs kill people all the time and put peoples lives in danger. Still people think they are babies and keep them as pets and walk them on leashes. Dogs shouldn’t be pets any more than tigers should. If someone can own a dog and let it kill cats, then the tiger deserves to live. Me allowing a tiger to run loose isn’t any different really than allowing a pit bull to run loose. Because society is backwards and stupid , I don’t think people should have tigers as pets for the tiger’s well being and safety from humans innate ignorance, and because like pit bulls, they are large, powerful, and at times unpredictable. They should be free where they belong, not in zoos or circuses either.

  5. When in a difficult situation normal people first THINK, then ACT. Police first SHOOT, then try to get away with the consequences.

  6. Haven’t these moronic ,uneducated cops heard about tranquilizer dart guns.American oinker pig cops are the scum of the earth. They are detested and have an atrocious international reputation for being dog murdering, corrupt,POS. Lets wish the bastard who killed this poor tiger has short and painful life.Lets hope the bastard is killed!

  7. This is sad. These cops need to stop being so gun happy. Shooting innocent animals. Make them start carrying tranquilizer gun. This animal was only doing what the wild do. Need to stop this madness. Stop shooting innocent animal. You cops hate it when someone shoots your dog’s so stop shooting ours..

  8. The only dangerous animals in this situation were people!!!!! They are the ones who make stupid decisions like the ones made here. People are supposed to be ‘educated’? What a farce that is. People are so stupid they can’t tell the difference between a fart in the wind and an odor coming from a gas pipe.

Stupid asses. They don’t have a friggin clue.

  9. Tadzio Kowalczyk says:

Since cops feel the need to shoot animal…..Why don’t they just go to a target range??

  10. FUCKING GUNS MAKE PEOPLE SO BRAVE, SICK BASTARDS. THERE ARE OTHER WAYS OF DOING THIS.
