End Commercial Breeding and ‘Puppy Mills’: Showcase Rescue Animals in Pet Stores

Target: Senator Kevin de León, President pro Tempore, California Senate

Goal: Protect animals from cruelty and abuse by ensuring the passage of AB 485, the Pet Rescue and Adoption Act.

California might take a huge step forward in saving innocent animals from the cruelty of commercial breeding or being forgotten in overpopulated shelters, if a new bill passes the Senate. The bill is called the Pet Rescue and Adoption Act, or AB 485. It is sponsored by Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL) and will be voted on by the full 40-member Senate floor.

If it passes, the bill will ensure that pet retail stores across the entire state showcase and help find homes for rescue animals from local shelters. This will not only help solve the crisis of overpopulation that California’s shelters and rescue groups are currently faced with, but will also have a long-lasting effect on the future for pets sold in California. By bringing shelter and rescue animals to pet stores, doors to the state will be closed for high volume commercial breeding and importing from so-called ‘puppy mills.’ Sign below to demand that the Senate pass this extremely important and necessary bill.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator de León,

The Pet Rescue and Adoption Act is a vital piece of legislation that must be passed into law. AB 485 is a huge step forward in protecting the well-being of innocent animals animals in California. The positive effects of replacing high-volume, commercially bred animals with rescue animals from local shelters in pet stores are paramount.

Not only will loving homes be found for animals who were rescued from abandonment or inhumane environments, the law will also help combat the pet overpopulation crisis for shelters and rescue groups. Additionally, the bill will be a huge step forward in shutting down cruel and abusive puppy mills by stopping the import of animals for sale to California. I urge you to pass AB 485, the Pet Rescue and Adoption Act.

Sincerely,

When people stop buying animals then these horrific mills will be force to shot down- AND come on people there is nothing more rewarding than adopting pets – I have adopted 3 dogs and 5 cats from shelters so I know!!

  5. Please don’t buy, animals are not something to be bought. Either they shall be for companionship or for food or for wearing or whatever. They deserve the same protection and benefits that humans have.

  6. It is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE that there is no possibility to PASS THE LAW ON FOR NEUTER AND SPAY-PROGRAMS everywhere!

ARE ALL of the lawmakers TO INFANTILE OR STUPID OR LAZY or W H A T ELSE to stop these tortures and greed businesses ONCE AND FOR ALL?

VERY VERY POORLY MINDED – THEY ALL SHOULD BE KICKED OUT OF THEIR PROFESSIONS IF NOT ABLE TO ACT IN A REASONABLE WAY!
