Senate: Support Animal Abuse Registry List

Target: Steve Yarbrough, President of the Arizona Senate

Goal: Support creation of animal abuse registry in Arizona.

Arizona senator John Kavanagh is making a second attempt at creating an animal abuse registry, after his first attempt ended in failure due to a lack of a vote. This registry would prevent pet shops, shelters, and breeders from selling pets to people who have ever been convicted of animal abuse.

This registry is vital due to the many cases of animal abuse in recent years. Too many people will be convicted of animal abuse and go on to buy another pet, whom they will treat just as poorly even if they claim to have learned their lesson. With a registry in place, animals will be protected from those who the law knows will harm them and free to go to loving homes. First-time offenders would be placed on the list for two years, and repeat offenders for five.

According to Kavanagh, it is difficult to get many animal protection bills passed into law, but it is important that we help this one come to fruition. Sign this petition to encourage the Arizona Senate to support and approve the animal abuse registry bill.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Yarbrough,

Senator John Kavanagh is making a second attempt at an animal abuse registry bill for your state. This bill would prevent pet shops, shelters, and breeders from selling pets to anyone convicted of animal abuse in the past.

The Senate must support this bill and help it pass. Too many animals have fallen victim to cruelty and neglect in recent years, and those people have been allowed to take in animals again despite the risk of them repeating their crimes. It is vital that animals be protected from those who will harm them, and be free to go to loving homes.

Please support the animal abuse registry and approve it as law. Animals everywhere depend on this protection.

Sincerely,
