Justice for Two Dogs Allegedly Abandoned Without Food or Water

Target: Stephen E. DeMarsh, County Attorney for Sarasota County, Florida

Goal: Demand that the woman who allegedly neglected and abandoned two dogs receive the maximum penalty under law.

Two dogs were allegedly abandoned without access to food or water. The owner claimed that his girlfriend had agreed to care for the dogs, but the girlfriend reportedly moved from the property and left the dogs behind. Demand justice for these innocent dogs.

A concerned neighbor contacted Animal Services regarding two dogs that were allegedly confined to a lanai without food or water. Remy, a male boxer mix, was reportedly so emaciated that his ribs showed through his skin, and Puppy, a female pit bull mix, suffered from a flea infestation. Per officers, the dogs’ caretaker, Kelsy Lewis, moved away and abandoned the dogs.

Remy had to be euthanized due to his aggressive behavior. Puppy is recovering. Lewis was charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty and two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. Sign below and demand that Lewis receive the maximum penalty under law, if convicted.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear County Attorney DeMarsh,

Two dogs suffered and one had to be euthanized after they were allegedly mistreated and abandoned in Sarasota County. The dogs were reportedly confined to a lanai without access to food or water. We demand justice for these innocent dogs.

When Animal Services officers found Remy and Puppy, they were reportedly covered in urine and feces. Remy, a boxer mix, was allegedly so emaciated that his bones showed through his skin. Puppy, a pit bull mix, reportedly suffered from a severe flea infestation and was missing patches of her fur. Per officers, Kelsy Lewis had agreed to care for the dogs while her boyfriend was incarcerated and instead moved from the property and left the dogs behind. Lewis has been charged with animal cruelty.

This horrific cruelty cannot go unpunished. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Sincerely,
