Justice for Dogs Barred from Hotel During Hurricane

Target: Keith Barr, CEO of Holiday Inn

Goal: Demand hotel make allowances for pets during Harvey flooding.

A Texas family was forced to leave their dogs in the car when a Holiday Inn allegedly refused to make an exception to their no-pets policy. The family’s home had been flooded during Hurricane Harvey, and the hotel was the first they had managed to find after hours of driving and one flooded car. They were too afraid to challenge the hotel’s rules for the sake of their dogs.

This is not an act of cowardice, but rather an act of submission from hotel guests who should not have been forced to leave their pets in their car. The hotel should not have denied the dogs refuge from the storm; not only do most owners consider their pets family members, but it is dangerous to leave an animal in a car for an extended period of time.

A hotel has the right to enforce its rules, but should also be flexible and make exceptions during times of emergencies and desperation. Sign this petition to demand the hotel make exceptions to their rules for future cases such as this.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Barr,

A Texas branch of your hotel reportedly refused a family’s three dogs refuge along with the family after their home was flooded during Hurricane Harvey. The dogs were forced to stay in the car while the family took turns keeping them company. The family had struggled through a long, wet drive until they finally found your hotel.

Your business has the right to make and enforce rules, but in emergencies such as this, you should be willing to make exceptions. Your refusal to change the rules for such a case greatly upset this family, who had just lost their home and were desperately seeking refuge.

You must change the rules to allow exceptions for emergencies. Pets are considered family members and should have just as much right to protection from storms and other dangers. Please alter your policy for future cases such as this one.

Sincerely,

  1. Unbelievably intransigent, inhumane and uncaring. So many families had abandoned their animals. This family hadn’t and must have been at the end of their tether. Let me make a note of the hotel chain: Holiday Inn. Marks out of 10 for compassion: zero. Chances of me making a booking in any one of them any time soon: zero. Change your policy and I might change my mind.

  2. The hotel chain learned nothing after Katrina???? I’ll stay no longer at Holiday Inn!!!

  3. Boycott the repulsive Holiday Inn.They have zero compassion for animals in a crisis situation.

  4. BOYCOTT HOLIDAY INN UNTIL THEY CHANGE THEIR POLICY. THEY’LL TAKE YOUR MONEY BUT NOT YOUR PETS!! .. THEY NEED TO CHANGE THEIR POLICY OR SHUT DOWN IF THEY CANNOT FIND HUMAN COMPASSION IN THE FACE OF AN CRISIS SUCH AS THIS. SHAME ON THEM ..

  5. Denise Devereux says:

BOYCOTT THIS HOTEL. LET PEOPLE KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND WHERE THEY ARE.
HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS THEIR INCOME!
PUT IT ON THE NEWS. GOOD STORY FOR THE PUBLIC TO HEAR.
