Severely Punish Man Who Allegedly Beat and Shot Dog

Target: Greg Banks, Island County Prosecuting Attorney, Washington State

Goal: Demand that the man who allegedly beat and shot a dog who killed a chicken receive the maximum penalty under law.

A Bernese Mountain Dog was reportedly beaten using a pickax before he was shot to death with a rifle in Washington state. The dog’s alleged murderer, a 36-year-old man named Jonathan Rasmussen, claimed to have followed the dog back to his home and attacked him there because the dog had supposedly killed a chicken.

Horrified eyewitnesses called police after they claim to have seen Rasmussen savagely beat the dog using the pickax. Rasmussen admitted to police that he had shot the dog as well, in order to “finish it off.” He is now facing animal abuse and unlawful firearm possession charges.

This shocking act of cruelty must not go unpunished. There is no excuse for killing a dog for acting out on his natural prey drive instincts. Sign this petition to demand that Rasmussen receive the harshest penalty under law if found guilty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prosecutor Banks,

A dog allegedly died a cruel and horrific death at the hands of a man who was said to be upset that the dog had killed a chicken. Per eyewitness accounts, a 36-year-old man in Coupeville named Jonathan Rasmussen followed the dog back to his home and then beat him there using a pickax. According to Rasmussen’s own accounts, he also used a rifle to “finish it off.” Even if the dog was responsible for killing a chicken, there is no excusing this man’s violent and sickening behavior.

We, the undersigned, demand justice for this dog. We call on you to ensure that no more innocent creatures will be harmed because of this individual. Please do all you can to see that this man receive the maximum penalty possible, if found guilty.

Sincerely,
