Goal: Commend “mutt-bombing” photo initiative to find homes for more rescue dogs

Denizens of the internet will be familiar with the concept of ‘photobombing,’ or inserting oneself (usually with a silly pose) into a photo of others as it is being taken — often a surprise the subjects of the photo can discover later. Dallas Pets Alive! (DPA), a volunteer-based pet fostering and adoption organization, has recently invented a new variety of photobombing called “mutt-bombing,” in which they edit photos of their rescue dogs into Instagram selfies to bring more attention to their adoption campaign. DPA’s website explains that their ultimate goal “is to promote and provide the resources, education and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals.”

The new mutt-bombing initiative is a great example of how social media can be leveraged to garner more attention for deserving, healthy rescue animals who need homes. DPA’s executive director Leslie Sans told The Daily Mail that DPA is “working with the creative team Dieste who extensively research people every day finding trend-setters, bloggers, popular Instagram profiles and sometimes just random people with interesting profiles and selfies…The initiative was launched February 10 with a special focus on Instagram which is the social media king for selfies which leads users to to find a complete display of the program. The feedback so far has been really positive – with people asking for their friends to get muttbombed or tagging friends to get muttbombed.”

Through their Instagram, DPA tags the original selfie poster, including many celebrities, with a cute message about the dog featured in the muttbomb, encouraging viewers to adopt them. For example, on their muttbomb of Today Show hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, they wrote, “I think the @todayshow is seriously lacking in the canine co-host department. I’m willing to work for treats and behind-the-ear scratches. Think about it @klgandhoda. I’m Chance and I’m #muttbombing you in hopes of finding a home. Follow me to to learn how to adopt me.”

By signing this petition, you are applauding the efforts of Dallas Pets Alive! through their muttbombing campaign to make Dallas a no-kill city.

Dear Dallas Pets Alive!,

I am inspired by your new muttbombing campaign to bring more attention to the beautiful, healthy rescue dogs for whom your organization works to find homes. This initiative opens up new possibilities for social media efforts to garner fresh attention to important human rights and social justice issues.

Thank you for embarking on such a fun, cute, and creative initiative to re-home animals who deserve a loving family. I encourage you to keep thinking up creative ways to reach your goal of making Dallas a no-kill city.

More good news ! Yes it will open these animals to so many more people, the bad as well, so they need to be very careful with their interviews of prospective owners. But this is still a solid move, in my mind, so join me in thanking Dallas Pets Alive.

Here’s an official petition to the Whitehouse on the governments petition site:

It’s asking Obama to ban euthanasia and save the 2 billion dollars we spend annually killing 5,500 dogs daily in Favor of tax breaks for vets to give free spay and neuters and cash voucher incentives to people who spay and neuter. This will quickly get our pet population under control and end the suffering of all these pets and Americans who love them. America must be proactive in solving our problems. More of the same isn’t working. Thank you! Please share.. Every signature is needed:)

Only if they end up in forever loving homes but most peole if they took one pet most if not all sheltered animals would not exist and if all those people took it serious to love and take care of the pet for life how much better this world would be!
