Shut Down Roadside Zoo Suspected of Mistreating Animals

Target: Carl Stoltz, Town Marshal, Topeka, Indiana

Goal: Release animals at roadside zoo to accredited shelter.

After alleging the worrisome conditions and animal behavior at roadside zoo Maple Lane Wildlife Park, PETA filed a complaint with the USDA urging the launch of an investigation. Video footage was taken that appears to show many animals with little to no protection from the high summer temperatures, inadequate shelters ill-suited for the animals they house, a bear hardly able to walk, and a tiger who had an ulcerated lesion. Additionally, a PETA veterinarian reported documenting animal behavior that clearly exhibits emotional and psychological distress, such as a macaque biting himself, a leopard obsessively pacing, and a monkey biting and hitting himself inside the birdcage where he was confined for photo ops.

Maple Lane Wildlife Park has received more than one official warning from the USDA for violating the federal Animal Welfare Act in the past. PETA hopes to work with the owners of Maple Lane to help transfer some of the larger animals to a sanctuary.

The vice president of PETA, Delcianna Winders, stated, “There is clear evidence of chronic, long-standing suffering and neglect at Maple Lane Wildlife Farm roadside zoo. PETA is calling on both local and federal authorities to ensure that these animals receive the care that they need and are entitled to by law.” Sign below to demand the protection of these innocent animals by shutting down Maple Lane Wildlife Park.

Dear Town Marshal Stoltz,

Maple Lane Wildlife Park has been receiving official warnings from the USDA since 2011 over concerns about how the roadside zoo’s animals are treated, and still nothing has been done about it. Video footage and documentation by PETA veterinarians appears to show further concerns, including inadequate shelter, injured animals, and animals showing clear signs of psychological and emotional distress. PETA has contacted the USDA about the matter and is calling on law enforcement to give these animals the protection they are entitled to.

The alleged violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act at Maple Lane Wildlife Park must be taken seriously. Innocent animals should not be forced to continue to suffer, waiting for the roadside zoo to comply with the warnings they have received. I urge you to protect these animals and to ensure they are moved somewhere with adequate living conditions, and to shut down Maple Lane Wildlife Park.

  1. these people are the ones that should be caged and ill treated, what is the matter with the human race, it has become so sickening to always read the things that people do to helpless creatures, no animal should be doing stupid tricks in a zoo,i can just see how they are looked after, I DON’T THINK PLEASE PUT A STOP TO ALL ZOOS.

shut these hell holes down they have no right to even exist these poor poor animals

  3. more important than just stopping ONE roadside zoo, is this ability (for a short time) for “us” to comment to the USDA, which is “over” all roadside zoos and circuses, all puppy mills, factory farm animals, and many other areas of animal welfare and care…..see:…/tell-usda-stop-rubber-stamping…/

Could someone in the government talk to Trump- he will want to be seen to be doing the right thing so please write a detailed report about ALL ANIMAL ABUSE and see if it will change things

  4. Zoo’s are not capable of meeting the conditions that animals need for normal daily functions. And so like this zoo and all other zoo’s, they need to be shut down or at least enhanced to provide better services to the animals they serve.

  5. Tanya Knappman says:

Come on Indiana! !!! How can you allow these animals to be abused and mistreated?????????

  6. Brigitte Maria Evans says:

Shut Down that Hell Hole Zoo NOW !!!!! Take these Poor Defenseless Abused Animals in to a Reputable Sanctuary NOW !!!!!! Lock the Cruel Worthless human Abusers in to a Cage and THROW Away the Key !!!!!

  7. All zoos have to be closed how dare humans feel they have the right to put the beautiful living animals on show. I would pay good money to go to a zoo full of caged and whipped humans who are responsible for this cruelty. Please post when human zoos are available to visit. We don’t have to feed them or clean their filthy cages that would be fun to watch these torturous so called human cunts wither in their own filth
