Animals Allegedly Confined Without Water or Food Deserve Justice

Target: Brian Haas, State Attorney for Polk County, Florida

Goal: Demand that the veterinarian who allegedly confined dogs, horses, and birds without access to food, water, or medical care receive the maximum penalty under law.

Multiple horses, dogs, and birds suffered when they were allegedly confined without access to food, water, or medical care. The animals were reportedly locked in cages inside of a rat-infested home without air conditioning. Demand justice for these poor animals.

“The fact that a practicing, licensed veterinarian caused so much suffering to her own animals is extremely concerning,” stated Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. Dr. Gail Anne Nichols and her husband, Paul Craig Smith, reportedly kept 28 miniature horses, eight dogs, two full-sized horses, and two birds in deplorable conditions. Per officers, the horses’ hooves were dangerously overgrown and they all appeared emaciated. The dogs and birds were reportedly confined without access to food or water.

Three miniature horses had to be euthanized due to the severity of their illness. The other animals were taken to an animal control facility for treatment. Nichols and Smith were charged with three counts felony animal cruelty, one count misdemeanor animal cruelty, and five counts confinement of animals without sufficient food, water, or shelter. Sign below and demand that Nichols and Smith receive the maximum penalty under law, if convicted.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State Attorney Haas,

Three horses had to be euthanized and many more animals suffered when they were allegedly neglected by a licensed veterinarian in Polk County. The animals were reportedly denied access to food, water, and adequate shelter, causing many of them to become emaciated and sick. We demand justice for these poor animals.

Over 40 animals reportedly lived in a rat-infested home while Dr. Gail Anne Nichols and her husband, Paul Craig Smith, stayed in separate trailers. Per police, the house smelled of ammonia, and the dogs and birds inside the home were locked in cages without access to food, water, or air conditioning. Outside, miniature and full-sized horses reportedly suffered with severely overgrown hooves and malnourishment. Nichols and Smith were charged with animal cruelty and the animals were removed from the property.

This horrific neglect cannot go unpunished. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Sincerely,

I’m ashamed to say that this ‘veterinarian’, Dr. Gail Anne Nichols and her husband, Paul Craig Smith, live here in MY county, Polk County! Some of the neglected miniature horses had to be euthanized because their hooves were so overgrown and turned upward, causing them great pain!!! It’s in the mid- to upper 90s right now in central Florida every day, and these animals were reportedly DENIED access to FOOD, WATER, and adequate SHELTER causing many of them to become emaciated and sick and left to suffer in the heat and humidity – what kind of Vet would treat their animals like this??? And then, they have the temerity to ask for their animals back!! LUDICRIOUS!!! MAXIMUM PENALTY AND MORE, PLEASE!!!

  2. WHY DOES THE LAW MAKE IT SO HARD TO TREAT SHIT LIKE THIS, JUST DO TO THEM WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO HELPLESS CREATURES, THEY ARE NOT WORTH EVEN THINKING ABOUT, JUST MAKE THEM PAY DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT.

  3. Angela Young says:

Please request the judge for maximum penalty with jail time AND the Veterinarian Society to REVOKE the license of Dr. Gail Anne Nichols !!!! She ius not fit to be a vet. It is like a doctor confining, torturing and murdering her patients…it is worst as the animals could not speak for themselves or fight back.

    • Couldn’t agree more!! She GLADLY TOOK PEOPLE’S FREAKING MONEY! YET she’s SUPPOSEDLY an ANIMAL LOVER! Seems to me she WAS IN IT 4 THE MONEY! A GREEDY HEARTLESS B=#’#! Who needs her liscence TAKEN AWAY FOREVER!
PERIOD! Anyone IN POLK CO FL SHOULD NOT USE THE CLINIC SHE WORKS/WORKED AT EITHER AS AN EMPLOYEE OR IF PRIVATE !
      Spread her name around!
Because animal laws are so LAX! I can ALMOST GUARANTEE SHE WILL KEEP HER LISCENCE AND MOVE TO BE ABLE TO PRACTICE VET MEDICINE!,
She SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED NEAR AN ANIMAL!
      We’re their voice!
Lock her and her hubby up in small cages without AC /food/water!

  4. Cheryl Wilson says:

Veterinarians choose that practice because of their love of animals. This woman did not show any love for the horses, dogs and birds she left locked up and without access to food and water. She needs to have her license taken away for this most cruel act of neglect!! And, her husband is equally guilty of this crime. I don’t understand why these people and others who commit acts of cruelty are not prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law?? Until they are, others that do similar crimes will only continue. ANIMALS DESERVE BETTER!!!

  5. MAXIMUM PENALTY TO THESE BASTARDS Anne Nichols and her husband, Paul Craig Smith,!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

  6. lynn woods says:
