Demand Return of Stolen Animals to Zoo

Target: Evelyn Trejo de Rosales, Mayor of Maracaibo, Venezuela

Goal: Save animals stolen from Venezuela zoo.

Ten species of animals have reportedly been stolen from the Zulia Metropolitan Zoological Park in Maricaibo, Venezuela, among them several buffalo and two tapirs. It is not yet known whether these animals have been stolen to be used as a food source, or to sell on the black market for a substantial profit.

Conditions in Venezuela have been horrifying for the past year due to a severe economic crisis leading to mass poverty and violence; 93 percent of the country’s citizens cannot even afford to eat. It is painful enough to know that so many people are suffering, but the theft of innocent animals is much worse. It could be argued that the animals were stolen in an act of desperation due to the circumstances, but that does not make the act any less illegal or unethical.

We must demand these animals be rescued or returned to their rightful place. It is only one small step in improving conditions in Venezuela, but it important nonetheless. Sign this petition to see these animals returned to their rightful home as soon as possible.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor de Rosales,

Ten species of animals have been reported stolen from a zoo in your city, either to be sold on the black market or used as a food supply, according to various sources. While the theft could be seen as an act of desperation due to your country’s severe economic crisis, it is still wrong to steal innocent animals from their home.

You must find and rescue these animals, or demand that they be returned immediately. Poverty and hunger are not an excuse to steal and potentially harm innocent animals, and it is said that the measure of a culture can be judged on the way it treats its animals. We urge you to do all you can to ensure that these animals are returned safely to where they belong before any harm can befall them, and that the perpetrators are properly punished for their reported actions.

Sincerely,

This seems like a cause that the United States of America should get involved in. Animal rights and human rights go hand-in-hand. Charity should begin at home. This means home in Venezuela, Mexico or any other country where people are doing less well than the animals and then the animals are suffering. Protect in place. Please return the animals. This is Paramount to the morals of your Society.
