Stop the Torture of Sick Captive Orcas at SeaWorld

Target: Joel Manby, CEO of SeaWorld

Goal: Save remaining orcas from conditions that are sickening them.

SeaWorld’s remaining captive orcas are dying at an astonishing rate due to illness and infection. The latest death of a 43-year-old female named Kasatka marks the third death in under one year for this company. Kasatka had been battling lung and skin infections for over a decade, while the two other whales are believed to have died of pneumonia.

It’s clear the conditions that SeaWorld provides its whales are inadequate. Orcas in the wild typically live anywhere from 50 to 100 years. The two other whales who perished were far younger. Tilikum, the whale featured in the famous “Blackfish” documentary, died in January at the age of 36, while the last captive born orca, named Kyara, died at only three months of age in July.

The time has come for SeaWorld to stop torturing these whales by confining them to a life in small enclosures where they are likely to spend much of their days distressed and sick. Sign this petition to demand that the company transfer its remaining whales to accredited sanctuaries or free them at last.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Manby,

The tragic death of one of SeaWorld’s oldest captive orcas, a 43-year-old female named Kasatka, is another sign that these whales are suffering in captivity. Kasatka had suffered chronic illness due to infection for over a decade, and she was the third whale to die while under your company’s care this year. Scientists now know wild orcas live at least 50 years in the wild, and the premature deaths of so many whales under your care is a clear sign that they are growing ill as a result of their unnatural living conditions.

We demand that you transfer your remaining whales to an accredited sanctuary or consider releasing them back into the wild where they truly belong. To do anything less is to condemn these intelligent and sensitive creatures to a miserable life and inhumane death.

Sincerely,

  1. I really despise SeaWorld! Some of their work is beneficial but the Orca dilemma is disgusting and shows SeaWorld’s true colors, greed driven, money above animal welfare. I truly hope they eventually shut down.

Sea World is one of the BIGGEST animal abusers on this
planet. They have NEVER cared about the poor whales and
dolphins that have to exist in their barbaric concrete
    prisons.

  3. Sandra N Downie says:

They need to close down! If they could change & update their program & add technologies that can educate the public with animations, etc. the way some circuses have, maybe they can survive. They won’t if they continue to torture animals to make a profit

  4. Wendy Morrison says:

Close sea World down permanently IMMEDIATELY to save the remain orcas!

  5. Sea World is nothing but ANIMAL ABUSE! Shut ’em down!!

  6. FOR ALL OF THESE INSANE AND INHUMANE BREED SOMEONE FORGOT MAIN THINGS IN HUMANES EDUCATION. WHO IS IT?

ALL THAT  BARBARIC  MUD AND RESPONSIBLE  NONPERSONS  ARE SENSELESS FOR ALL OTHER TERRESTRIALS – RECYCLE THEM  TO ALLIGATORS, THE SINGLE MEANING OF THIS SCUM.

It’s time hold all those responsible for authorizing and overseeing the implementation of torture against fellow EARTH inhabitants & creatures accountable. A special prosecutor is the most comprehensive way to do that.

THE INHUMANE ASSHOLE – STYLE IS TO STOP!

  7. Stop & pursue this criminal rabble and this deformity  –  instantly!
    WAITING FOR WHAT ?
    THE NEXT ICE AGE ?

  8. I have to say it: “has 1 animal life for me worth more – than 1 million people.”
