Beating Death of Family’s Dog Requires More Than Misdemeanor Charges

Target: Lawrence Wasden, Attorney General of Idaho

Goal: Demand harsher sentence for man charged with beating family dog to death.

An Idaho family, already devastated by the loss of their dog named Hank, has learned that the man accused of the murder is being let off with a mere misdemeanor charge. Last month, the Cook family left their beloved dog in the care of Austin Matott, only to find the animal had been brutalized when they returned home. The dog was pronounced dead at the vet, and the autopsy showed signs of severe abuse.

It is an insult to the dog’s memory that Matott is merely being given a slap on the wrist for his alleged actions. The family placed their trust in this man to care for their pet; they should not have had to come home to find their pet in such dire straits. Furthermore, animal abuse is far from a misdemeanor; it is a serious crime and should be treated as such, especially in a case such as this.

Animal abusers deserve more than a slap on the wrist. Sign this petition to demand a much harsher sentence for Matott, and that he be made an example of so that people will think twice about harming an animal in their care.

Dear Attorney General Wasden,

The punishment issued to accused animal abuser Austin Matott is much too light. Matott was left in charge of a family dog, only for the dog to die of brutal injuries hours later and the autopsy to apparently show signs of severe abuse. The family of the dog is devastated by the loss and enraged by Matott’s actions being classified as a misdemeanor.

Animal abuse is a serious crime, and it must always be treated as such. This family placed their trust in the accused to watch their beloved pet, and that trust was violated. It is an insult to the dog’s memory that his assailant and alleged killer is being given a mere slap on the wrist. While nothing will bring back Hank, Matott has committed a serious crime and must be given a harsher punishment.

  1. Globally, the whole judicial system must be reviewed if we are to ever put a stop to animal abuse. Perpetrators of cruelty to ANY creature has to be dealt with severely, not just a slap on the wrist and fined. All animals need our protection and support if we are to end abusers inflicting pain, torment and the loss of life. We have a voice, they don’t and we must therefore speak up for them, protect them and above all, bring about justice to those despicable cowards and monsters who carry out such exploitation and cruelty to the innocent.

  2. This person needs a red hot poker where the sun doesn’t shine- animals should be loved not harmed. Horrid bully

  3. Wow since when is animal cruelty (not to mention murder) not a felony? It’s a felony at the federal level, so perhaps the FBI should get involved with this since the state/local level can’t seem to mete out appropriate justice.

  4. Marilyn Glasgow says:

Because of the attitude of these authorities, from the police right up to, and mostly the judges toward animals, this is why the abuse will never end. Obviously the owners of Hank didn’t know this piece of filth very well when they gave the poor dog over to him. Rest in peace, little Hank, at the Rainbow Bridge.

  5. Now people know this filthy cowardice cunt monster. People need to take the law into their own hands and dole out the justice that our system will not. This monster deserves physical pain inflicted on his body. He must be sought out and delt with. If we can pay to have this fuker tortured i would be happy to arrange fund raising

  6. Susan Budde says:

Hunt that fucker down and kill him! I would personally love to beat him to death! Since his name has been made public, you’d think that someone living in the area would get him!

  7. hay que hacerle lo mismo a el por hijo de puta

  8. Lisa Allred Lisa Zarafonetis says:

    It never fckn ends❗️?
Beat the sh!t ? out of this prick❗️?
    Signed & shared. ?

  9. renate botzler says:

Nature treats back now ? Monster
    Take responsibility for your cruelty
Take responsibility for your Being on Earth
    Live your hell now
    Higher Justice works now

  10. Wonder how the Judge would have felt if it was his family dog that was murdered in this way.
This is not a misdemeanour. It is plain animal cruelty to the harshest degree. How could the poor dog be hurt more – It was killed for goodness sake.
No wonder people want to take the law into their own hands when a pathetic non -sentence such as this is handed out.
All I can hope for is Karma !!
