Demand Luxury Clothing Store Stop Selling Fur

Fur Pelts

Target: Barneys New York CEO Mark Lee

Goal: Demand that Barneys New York stop encouraging the slaughter of animals and remove all fur from its stores

Animals who are bred or captured for use in the fur industry endure lives of sheer misery. They are often killed in cruel and unusual ways so that their skin can be ripped from their bodies and made into clothing. It is a horrific practice that should not be endorsed by the fashion industry on the runway or in retail stores.

According to PETA, “Animals who are trapped in the wild [for their fur] can suffer for days from blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators” whereas “Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages.” Whether animals are caught or raised for their fur, they are ultimately killed in a manner that prioritizes monetary expense over the animals’ suffering. It is disturbing to think that anyone would want to subject another living creature to this type of cruelty under the guise of fashion.

It has been over three years since Barneys New York caused outrage by mislabeling a fur parka as “faux fur.” At that time, various animal rights organizations asked the luxury retailer to discontinue its sale of fur to no avail. Further evidence of animal cruelty in the fur industry has been revealed in recent years, so it is time for the national retailer to re-examine the decision to sell fur. Barneys New York is considered a leader in the fashion industry and as such, it should take the important and humane step of vowing to cease selling fur immediately.

By signing the petition below, you will urge Barneys New York CEO Mark Lee to take a stand against animal cruelty by removing all fur from its stores across the country.

Dear Mark Lee,

I am shocked that Barneys New York is still selling fur in stores and online. Perhaps you are unaware that animals who are bred or captured for use in the fur industry endure lives of sheer misery.

I would have thought that after Barneys stores caused outrage in 2010 by mislabeling a fur parka as “faux fur,” you would have taken the opportunity to take a stand against animal cruelty by removing all fur from your stores. The good news is that it is never too late to take a step in the right direction.

I am asking you to take the important and humane step of vowing to cease selling fur in Barneys New York stores effective immediately.

  1. Anyone wear Fur are Murders, and all factories who us Fur are Criminals and murders.Fur for animals only.

  2. C’mon guys. Decent people stopped wearing fur decades ago. Do we need to break out the buckets of paint to throw on your customers again?

  3. Deborah Craig says:

I’ve seen faux fur – looks and feels exactly like the real thing: USE IT. I’ve also seen a video of a fur farm that would put ANYONE off wearing fur if they’d seen how animals that would normally spend their lives wandering for miles are forced to live in tiny cages atop each other – obviously driven mad by it. Then after many months of misery they’re executed by anal electrocution.

Ms. Craig, you have the right of it. And we think a colonoscopy is nasty.
In China, cats and dogs are killed to make a fur garment. All you need to remember is that humans are animals – Vertebrates, give birth to live young. And though our hair is minimal, our skin can be tanned and made into coats, jackets, pants, belts.

  5. Marion Cavero blumenfeld says:

Stop the killing of all animals for their fur…they are creatures that feel exactly as we do..leave them in peace..if you use these furs are a criminal exactly the same as if you had killed these creatures…

  7. the thought of wearing fur is horrific, to think that I could wear something that belong to a beautiful animal at one time, oh no, and these people that do wear fur have no idea or could not care less at what the animals go through, you have no idea how barbaric and torturous the getting of the fur is, people that wear fur just try pulling out a bunch of hair, right it hurts but you can stop, these poor creatures cannot, you all need to be put down. or just stop wearing fur.

  8. Say NO to fur!!!!!!!!
