Dog With Mouth Allegedly Duct-Taped Shut Deserves Justice

Target: Christian Champagne, District Attorney for La Plata County, Colorado

Goal: Demand that the man who allegedly duct-taped a dog’s mouth shut receive the maximum penalty under law.

A dog was allegedly left alone in a hot car with his mouth duct-taped shut. The dog’s owner claimed that he taped the dog’s mouth shut to prevent him from eating dangerous substances and attacking people. Demand justice for this innocent dog.

Witnesses reportedly noticed Appa, a 9-month-old male Belgian Malinois, locked inside of a car with his mouth duct-taped shut. Disturbing photos taken by a witness reportedly showed Appa lying on his side and appearing to be asleep. The temperature outside had reached 89 degrees and, without the ability to pant, Appa could have overheated and died.

Thomas D. Ethridge was charged with cruelty to animals. Appa remains in Ethridge’s custody. Sign below and demand that Appa be removed from Ethridge’s custody and that Ethridge receive the maximum penalty under law, if convicted.

Dear District Attorney Champagne,

A dog could have died when he was allegedly left alone in a hot car with his mouth duct-taped shut. The temperature outside reached 89 degrees. We demand justice for this poor dog.

“We told him it was inappropriate, and he didn’t seem to be interested in our opinion of how he was treating his dog,” stated Betty Dorr, the mother of the boy who found Appa. She called 911 after the dog’s owner, Thomas D. Ethridge, allegedly retrieved Appa from the car and left the scene. Ethridge reportedly kept Appa for his own protection and began taping the dog’s mouth shut to prevent him from attacking people and eating dangerous substances inside of the car.

This horrific abuse must be punished. We demand that you remove Appa from this unsafe environment and seek the maximum penalty in this case.
