Target: Justin Bieber
Goal: Insist that pop icon Justin Bieber find a home for a dog he abandoned at a training facility
For Christmas 2013, pop star Justin Bieber got an American Bulldog puppy and asked his online fans to name the dog. The name Karma was chosen from fan suggestions. In February 2014, he left Karma at a training facility to be returned with the 20-year-old musician on his way back to America. When Bieber did not pick up American Bulldog pup, the trainers tried to reach him several times. As of now, the dog remains in the care of the trainers, for whose services Bieber has not paid.
This is not the first time the pop icon has displayed irresponsibility toward his pets. At a concert, he handed a caged hamster to a fan, telling her to take care of it for him. The hamster died about half a year later. When Bieber’s pet monkey, Mally, was seized at an airport because he did not have proper vaccination paperwork, customs officials gave the singer an opportunity to pick up the monkey. Rather than produce the necessary veterinary paperwork and retrieve the pet, he abandoned the animal at the airport. The monkey was sent to an animal sanctuary in Munich, and Bieber was billed for the cost of its medical care and vaccinations.
So far, Justin Beiber has been eager to use animals as publicity stunts, but has shown carelessness and irresponsibility toward their care afterwards. The singer, who is an idol to children and teens across the world, should be more careful about the message he is sending to impressionable young people. Sign the petition below to demand that Bieber take responsibility for his abandoned pet by finding it a permanent adoptive home.
Dear Mr. Justin Bieber,
You abandoned Karma, a young American Bulldog, at a dog training facility in February, when you left her to be trained before returning to America. Before that, you gave a caged hamster to a fan and left a pet monkey with an airport customs department.
These animals are sentient creatures and deserve better than to be abandoned after you use them for publicity on your social media accounts. We, the undersigned, demand that you show more responsibility in taking care of your pets, beginning with finding a permanent home for Karma.
