Save Deer Trapped by Fence Construction

Target: Tony Price, Managing Director of Sellafield Ltd.

Goal: Save a herd of 12 roe deer trapped inside a security fence

When a nuclear reprocessing plant owned by Sellafield Ltd. built a new security fence around the facility, they accidentally trapped 12 roe deer inside the fence perimeter. The company claims the best solution to the problem is to kill the deer. Condemn this plan and demand the release or relocation of the deer immediately.

The roe deer is a relatively small deer native to much of Europe and is part of the local landscape in Sellafield, England. When a new set of security fences were constructed at the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing site, about 12 of the deer were trapped in a large section between the fences. Sellafield Ltd., in consultation with the government, decided that killing the animals would be the most humane option. When residents of the nearby community of Seascale found out about the planned cull, they set up protests around the facility and are rallying the people to save this herd of deer.

These deer were in the wrong place at the wrong time and are now facing the death penalty for it. Sellafield Ltd. is claiming that killing the deer is in the deer’s best interests and is the least stressful option for the deer. It is extremely likely that if the deer had a say in it they would rather suffer a little stress then be killed. Demand that Tony Price, Managing Director at Sellafield Ltd. relocate the trapped deer and save them from an untimely death.

Dear Mr. Price,

As the Managing Director of Sellafield Ltd., you are ultimately responsible for what happens at the Sellafield reprocessing facility. When a new set of security fences were built, a herd of about 12 roe deer were trapped inside. Your company built a fence through their habitat and now you want to kill them for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The excuses being made by your company for the cull — that it is the most humane option, that it is less stressful for the deer, even that it is in the deer’s best interests — are laughable. To claim that killing the deer is the least stressful option for the deer is ridiculous. I’m sure if the deer had a say in it they would rather have a little stress and be able to live out their lives then be killed due to no fault of their own.

Mr. Price, the roe deer at Sellafield were simply in the wrong place when your company built a fence around them. They do not deserve to die for that. Do the right thing and relocate the deer.

  3. These idiots need a fenced in perimeter so large they don’t even know what innocent animals they’ve trapped inside. Now they’re so sick they just want to murder the animals?
They should be required to remove the fence, not the innocents.

Stop. I insist that you help and save the deer.

  7. Just release them back into their habitat that you haven’t destroyed by being fenced and just put them outside your fence lines. Why the hell would you kill them??
Morons – should relocate your company and fence you in and then cull you!
