Goal: Praise New York for approving high-tech means of stamping out animal fighting.
Animal fighting has been added to the list of crimes that cops can monitor via wiretaps and surveillance video in New York, thanks to Governor Andrew Cuomo. In the wake of national backlash against animal fighting, including this ForceChange petition, the state is finally able to employ these high-tech methods in their ongoing fight against the cruel and barbaric practice of forcing roosters, dogs, and other animals to engage in bloody battles for cash.
New York is home to a billion-dollar underground economy based in animal fighting; not only do people make outrageous wagers on the fights, but professional fighters will forcibly breed and sell off dogs with a particularly strong bloodline. This underground economy adds a whole new layer of cruelty to the already reprehensible practice of animal fighting; dogs, birds and many other animals have not only suffered gory or fatal injuries in these fights, but their young are bred in captivity and sold off quickly to the highest bidders for the sake of continuing the vicious cycle.
Officials hope that this cruel practice will be shut down in New York thanks to these surveillance methods. Sign this petition to thank Governor Cuomo for making the battle against animal fighting so much easier.

Dear Governor Cuomo,
Thank you for approving the use of surveillance equipment to stop the widespread animal fighting rings in New York. Millions of animals, particularly dogs and roosters, have suffered not only due to the fights themselves, but the illegal breeding and sales that accompany said fights. Animals with strong bloodlines are forcibly bred, and their young sold to the highest bidders. The operation has made billions of dollars thus far.
With the help of wiretaps and video cameras, it will be much easier to capture those taking part in this barbaric operation and bring them to justice. Animals deserve better, and we hope that this new endeavor in the effort to stop illegal cock and dogfighting will completely destroy the operation. Thank you for your approval of these methods in the effort to put an end to these barbaric actions.

Good move, NY! NOW, as long as when any animals are seized, they are given REAL, stalwart chances to be rehabbed and properly homed, this could be a huge step forward.
