Ban Deadly Horse Races

Target: Rachel Notley, Premier of Alberta

Goal: Ban the chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede festival.

Every year in Alberta, Canada, the Calgary Stampede festival is held and hosts chuckwagon races. This event has led to injuries and death for numerous horses. It is time to put an end to this cruel, deadly event.

During chuckwagon races, groups of horses are tethered to “pioneer” wagons and forced to run at incredibly fast speeds. Severe injury and even death are common occurrences for these horses. After four horses died from injuries sustained from the races in 2010, stricter rules were enforced. However, the event was still very dangerous and four more horses died in 2015. Even more regulations were put into place, but another horse has already died this year.

Sign this petition and demand an end to chuckwagon races. It is clear these races are not safe no matter what regulations are implemented. No animal should die for human entertainment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Premier Notley,

Every year, the Calgary Stampede festival in Alberta hosts chuckwagon races. These races are incredibly dangerous and have led to severe injury and death to many horses. It is time to put a stop to this cruel event.

During these races, groups of horses are attached to “pioneer” wagons and forced to run at high speeds. In 2010, four horses died and regulations became tighter. In 2015, four more horses died. Regulations were tightened yet again; however, a horse has already passed away this year. It is clear this event is inherently dangerous and deadly.

Please put an end to these terrible races. No animal should suffer and die for human entertainment.

Sincerely,

  1. When will Alberta final join the 21st century. I lived there for 11 years and finally left because I could see no hope for this backwater Canadian province.

  2. This is cowboy stuff from yester year. They’ve got to stop this crap. It really is redneck country.

  3. What wrong with people we hopefully will end such barbaric, old fashion, heartless, entertaiment. We Canadians are a kind bunch so what happened that this continues. Totally need new laws because money is more important to hearfelt morals.

  4. Call this entertainment? What do you class as abuse? Your tighter regulations didn’t do much good , did they? This cowboy crap belongs to the past. Move forward and think of something worthy of real men, not idiots.

Harness men to wagons and make them all race around a track instead of horses or any other animals too!
BAN ALL ANIMALS RACES, ZOOS, ENERTAINMENT!!

  6. Not humane than barbaric, really stupid and worthless criminal and ignorant SCUM, which should be banned on an island for their whole lives! Or not?

It’s time hold all those responsible for authorizing and overseeing the implementation of torture against fellow EARTH inhabitants & creatures accountable. A special prosecutor is the most comprehensive way to do that.

  8. Gee, just as animal advocates predicted — NO amount of re-jigging the rules could possibly EVER make the Chucks actually SAFE for the horses. But Notley’s a redneck Albertan, too, so prefers to believe in these bald-faced lies, since all the cruel rodeo events bring in MONEY.

According to a local news story (when they think non-rednecks aren’t watching), a chuck horse has to have his back ankles “wrapped” before the race, “to prevent swelling from an old injury.” Seriously…would these rodeo thugs make their GRANDMOTHER or CHILD run a risky race, and on a hot, dry summer evening, no less, if they had a PREVIOUS INJURY THAT COULD SWELL UP directly BECAUSE of such activity? I highly doubt it! Then THIS telling commentary – “…along with all the horses being *used* that night…” There ya go; they’re NOT “family,” but truthfully, are USED (exploited) animals.

But LOCAL crowds now have to be enticed with more “deals”, so now it’s more the damn TOURISTS, INCLUDING Canada’s own Prime Minister Trudeau, that have to stop wanting to be ‘entertained’ by animal exploitation and abusive events! And the sooner these neanderthal-like “cowboys/cowgirls” die during rodeo events, the better, I say.

It’s good to see more and more women being elected to higher offices, but not if it’s just going to be business- as-usual. Brave women marched to raise consciousness in the 1970’s; it’s so disappointing to see just another schmuck maintaining a backward status quo.
