Don’t Weaken Protections for Endangered Species

Target: Rob Bishop, Chairman, House Natural Resources Committee

Goal: Maintain strong government protections for endangered species.

Congress has convened hearings to consider five bills aimed at substantially weakening protections for endangered species.

The bipartisan Endangered Species Act has provided government protection to vulnerable plant and animal species since 1973. It has been overwhelming successful with less than one percent of listed species facing extinction.

Gray wolves will be stripped of endangered species protection under the proposed measures, despite historically low numbers across the Midwest.

These proposals represent another example of lawmakers prioritizing economic interests over environmental sustainability. Removal of endangered species protections will help pave the way to fulfill the Trump Administration goal of opening federal lands to increased fossil fuel exploration. Please sign the below petition calling on Congress to maintain this historic and effective legislation.

Dear Representative Bishop,

I am writing to urge you that stand against the five proposed bills aimed at weakening the Endangered Species Act. This historic, bipartisan legislation has protected over 99 percent of listed plant and animal species since its passage in 1973.

As chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee you have an opportunity to send a clear message that ecological sustainability is a non-partisan issue. Please set an example for your Republican colleagues by voting against these measures.

  1. This is one way that wolf haters and other wildlife haters do to get their way so they can keep their own interests protected regardless of the threats to endangered species. I want the ESA untouched because people like me speak for others who can’t and I believe animals should live on this earth freely as much as humans do.
