Continue to Protect Endangered Panther

Target: Greg Sheehan, Acting Director, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Goal: Don’t take away protections for Florida’s endangered panthers.

Once again, the Florida panther is threatened with losing its protections. The animal may be taken off the federal list of endangered species, should Florida ranchers have their way.

Less than thirty years ago, only 20 to 30 panthers lived in Florida. In the decades since then, the species has been revived. Today, the panther population has grown enough that the animal has spread from its habitat in the state’s south to new habitats in the north.

However, should ranchers in the state have their way, the panther may once again face extinction. Ranchers, upset that panthers are going after their livestock, are rallying the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the panther from its endangered species list. Sign the petition and demand that protections for the panther remain intact.

Dear Mr. Sheehan,

After several decades, the Florida panther is experiencing a growing population. However, this progress may be lost should ranchers in the state succeed in getting the species removed from the endangered species list.

Although the number of panthers in the state has increased, there is still much work to be done. To remove the animal from the endangered species list and abolish its protections would erase all of the progress that has been made. I ask that the Florida panther remain on the endangered species list.

  1. THIS IS RIDICULOUS —- WE NEED FAR LESS RANCHERS & FAR MORE WILD SANCTUARIES!!! FOR THE GOOD OF ALL. Animals on both sides need far more protection from humans. And people would be healthier eating a lot less meat.

  2. They’re so beautiful. .. plzzzz save them!

  3. Cecelia Nelson says:

WHY are WE always KILLING & ABUSING the precious animals that God has given us. WE humans are the cruelest animal on this earth. NO RESPECT for ANYTHING!!!! GREEDY!!! These panthers will be GONE FOREVER if WE don’t change. SHAME ON US!!!

  4. Screw the ranchers! The panthers were here first and deserve protection! Put them back on the list now!

    • Sugandha Nagarajan says:

      I agree.

If the ranchers have a problem, why don’t we just feed the ranchers to the panthers. Problem solved.

  5. Emily Jane Davis says:

I m loving both of the last comments & fully agree!!! U tell um girls!!! We need to speak for the panthers who can not speak 4 themselves!!!!
