Praise Pet Store’s Anti-Cruelty Stance

Target: Bruce Smith and Mark Araeia, Owners of Pets Plus

Goal: Applaud pet store’s partnership with animal rescue organizations

A pet store chain in Philadelphia has recently sworn off selling dogs from puppy mills after joining forces with the Humane Society of the United States. Pets Plus has implemented strict rules about where its pets can be sourced from in hopes of taking away support from cruel, profit-focused puppy mills, which often produce unhealthy or improperly socialized dogs.

Puppy mills keep their females almost constantly pregnant in order to ensure maximum profitability. This can result in severe health issues for the mother dogs, including malnutrition and bone weakness. The disgusting conditions and feces-covered floors often found in puppy mills are a breeding ground for parvovirus and flea and tick infestations. Finally, human neglect leaves puppies with sometimes lifelong behavioral issues, including incompatibility with other animals or humans once sold.

While these overcrowded and filthy dog breeding centers are illegal, many are still operating under the guise of legitimate breeders. As there is no way to be sure of a dog’s origins, some pet stores can end up unknowingly supporting puppy mills. In order to cut support for cruel breeders altogether, many locations of Pets Plus will now only carry dogs rescued by the Humane Society of the United States or Animal Aid of New Jersey, a nonprofit dog rescue. By adopting from these agencies, buyers will be sure to get a healthy dog with medical records and vaccinations.

By partnering with rescue organizations, Pets Plus will find homes for hundreds of rescued dogs, saving them from extended stays in shelters or euthanization. Sign the petition below to thank the store for considering the welfare of its animals.

Dear Bruce Smith and Mark Araeia,

Pets Plus locations across Philadelphia will be withdrawing their support from puppy mills. These cruel and overcrowded dog breeding centers put profit above the well-being of their animals, which often suffer from malnutrition, illness, and behavioral issues. Now, Pets Plus stores will only carry rescue dogs from Humane Society of the United States and Animal Aid of New Jersey.

As well as taking away support from these barbaric breeders, Pets Plus will be saving the lives of many dogs that would otherwise be euthanized in overcrowded shelters. We, the undersigned, thank Pets Plus for accepting responsibility for ensuring the well-being of all their animals.

While this is a SMALL START, there are over 10 THOUSAND to 15 THOUSAND Puppy Mills that our OWN Government has ALLOWED and Knows that out of that Number, only approx. 1/3 are Licensed or Regulated because they LIE about HOW Many Animals they have! The HSUS and the ASPCA and over 3500 shelters also DO NOT tell the truth, sometimes it’s Not that they are lying, they just ESTIMATE the Numbers taken IN and THOSE Killed…It’s Not Euthanasia, since these are Healthy, Viable animals being KILLED every Day and every night in THIS Country alone. The TRUE Numbers are approx. 6 to 12 MILLION a year, every year for OVER 70 years since Puppy Mills were regulated?? under the USDA As CASH CROPS to help out farmers after WWII! So, this is small, But it MUST Start SOMEWHERE after 50++++ years and NO Org., Society, or ASSOC. HAS DONE Anything to END the KILLING since the NEVER ENDING SUPPLY due to these MILLS and backyard Breeders who sell online, to pet stores in flea markets and SWAP meets continues to Grow in Numbers. SPAY and MEUTERING Must be More affordable or FREE, Vets Need to be More Involved in Helping this get DONE and MILLS and BREEDERS who are NOTHING More than PIMPS for Animals FOR MONEY and at the COST of their SUFFERING, NEGLECT, ABUSE and TORTURE, FOR MONEY!! OK this is a Fraction of the TRUTHS I have researched for over 3 years straight and Most of my adult life…There is a Way to Fix this so SO many Animals don’t have to Die every day and every night, BUT it Will go AGAINST what this BUSINESS IS ALL ABOUT…..MONEY and GREED at the EXPENSE of Animals who cannot Defend themselves or Protect themselves and the #’s of Mills has grown as well as the #’s KILLED…yet the #’s of Shelters HAS NOT grown, there are approx.3500 for 3144 Counties in the US. Know the #’s…Put MILLS and BREEDERS out of Business, the GOV allows them to Let and CAUSE Animals to SUFFER, don’t believe me, Look up the Minimal STANDARDS these Poor Animals are FORCED to EXIST, Not live, because they do NOT have a Life, in the MILLS or the Shelters!

  5. Leslie Stanick says:

Thank you for taking a stand against cruel puppy mills.

  6. Karen Remnant says:
