Target: Ricky Gervais
Goal: Thank Ricky Gervais for consistently fighting against animal abuse
Comedian/actor/writer/director Ricky Gervais stands up for the betterment of animals at any and every occasion. Case it point, the funny man recently appeared at the British National Television Awards and he took a moment to hold up a sign asking the Australian government to stop a massive shark cull that was recently approved and will lead to the deaths of countless sharks.
Gervais is also a supporter of Cruelty-Free International and he provided a video testimonial in which he spoke out against the inhumane practice of cosmetics testing on animals. “We urgently need a worldwide ban on this cruel and unnecessary suffering.” said Gervais. With the help of celebrity supporters like Ricky Gervais, Paul McCartney and Peter Dinklage, Cruelty-Free International successfully convinced the UK to ban all cosmetics that were tested on animals. “The Office” creator also supports the Humane Society International, Animal Defenders International and several other animal-related organizations.
PETA named Ricky Gervais PETA’s Person of the Year of 2013 for raising awareness to animal abuse. PETA stated a main reason for choosing Gervais for this prestigious honor was because he kept “his 5.3 million Twitter followers informed on animal rights issues in a witty and irreverent—yet relevant—way.” In a particularly direct tweet, Gervais stated, “Dear intelligent people of the world, don’t get shampoo in your eyes. It really stings. There. Done. Now f**king stop torturing animals.”
With his TV show “Derek,” Gervais promotes the idea that “kindness is magic” and we should take care of animals and people who may not be able to take care of themselves. Ricky Gervais is using every resource available to encourage his fans to treat animals with compassion and respect.
Please take a moment to thank Ricky Gervais for fighting against animal abuse and raising awareness about important issues like the Australian shark cull.
