Success: Animal Welfare Law Passed

Smiling Dog

Target: Monthian Boonthan, Thailand National Legislative Assembly Member

Goal: Applaud passage of groundbreaking animal welfare bill

In response to the number of animal abuse cases in Thailand, an animal welfare bill was proposed to protect the safety of animals such as cats and dogs from abuse and neglect. A recent petition urged National Legislative Assembly Members to take action on this issue. This proposed law bars animal cruelty and punishes pet owners if they mistreat their pet animals by abusing or neglecting them. This law also allows officials to conduct searches of homes or businesses if they receive complaints regarding animal cruelty.

The bill was passed by the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand almost unanimously, with a 188 to 1 vote. This law protects domesticated pets, animals kept for food, and animals kept for entertainment or any other purpose. The passage of this bill is a major success and will help prevent cruelty to pets as well as ensuring pet animals are given proper living conditions and the care they deserve.

This law also gives a broader definition of animal cruelty in Thailand. Although this bill does not cover cruelty to wild animals, it is important to know that the welfare of wild animals is covered in a different bill. Members of the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand should be praised for their decision to pass this animal welfare bill. Sign this petition and show your support.

Dear Mr. Boonthan,

After hearing about all the animal cruelty to animals in Thailand, I am both happy and relieved that the animal welfare bill protecting the welfare of these animals was recently passed by the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand. I believe that animal welfare is extremely important and I am glad that you think the same.

These animals deserve proper care and decent living conditions. Now that this bill was passed, these animals will be treated with the decency they all deserve. Although the bill does not include the 20 proposed additions to further improve the welfare of these animals, I believe that this law is just the first step in changing the way animal welfare is enforced in Thailand.

I would like you to know that you had by full support on this bill from the very beginning and I would like to thank you for all of the efforts you have made to ensure this bill is a success.
