Praise Humane Society for Removing 18 Cats from Animal Hoarder

Target: George Bengal, Director of Humane Law Enforcement for the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA)

Goal: Thank the Humane Society for rescuing 18 cats from an animal hoarder

Philadelphia was plagued with some disturbing news that an animal hoarder located southwest of Philadelphia was charged with fifteen counts of animal abuse. The man was charged for having a large number of cats living in an unsanitary home. Authorities told the public that they found the man and his 18 cats living in a home filled with almost 5 inches of animal feces. The animal care and control team of Philadelphia removed the cats from the home immediately and were taken to a nearby shelter to be evaluated and cared for.

This incident brings forth a very real issue that is troubling pet lovers all over the world. About 200,000 animals are victims of hoarding each year. Animal hoarders are people who keep a large number of animals without having the fitting ability to care for them. The hoarders often believe that they are helping the animals and deny any fact that they are unable to care for the animals. Although they provide the animals with homes, they are often neglected and lack food and proper medical care.

Animal hoarding is a serious and heartbreaking situation to witness. Please sign this petition to thank the people of the Pennsylvania Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and let them know that we appreciate their work and dedication.

Dear George Bengal, Director of Humane Law Enforcement for the PSPCA,

Thank you for saving the cats from the animal hoarder in Philadelphia, PA. With your efforts, 18 cats were rescued and put in shelters where they can be properly evaluated and cared for. We feel that the PSPCA is a remarkable group that works hard to uncover animal abusers like this one and does a great job providing treatment to animals that are in need. This incident brings awareness to the horrendous conditions that some poor animals face at the hands of their owners and caregivers. Animal hoarding is a real issue and there need to be stricter penalties against it.

Thank you for all that you do to save animals and for giving them a second chance at life. The PSPCA’s dedication to animal welfare is respectfully noted and admired.

Thank you, Philly SPCA! I know the great work you do.

Please – give these cats a chance to find loving homes, even if they appear unsocialized. Cats can be turned around – it takes time and effort to make them adoptable. Treat them like you treat unsocialized dogs. We know you can do it!

Thank you PSPCA for your dedication to animal welfare and for all that you do to save animals.

  4. thank you Humane Society for rescuing these 18 cats from a animal hoarder. Thanks for giving them food and medical care and hopefully you will be able to place them all in loving forever homes. At least they will have a better chance to survive now.

  5. Tracey Smallwood says:

I would like to know what exactly the Humane Society does with these cats and others like them. I know for a fact that they put down the ones who aren’t “pet worthy”. For instance older or not friendly cats. Can someone tell me how these cats ended up before I thank them?

  6. Cheryl Murray says:

I think the person took them in wanting to help and it got out of hand. There are so few places to turn to if you ask for help…

  7. As much as I believe the man was attempting to help these cats initially, ending up with 5 inches of animal faeces is disgusting. I bet a lot of animal hoarders start off with the intent of trying to help save animals, but ends up getting out of control. I’m glad the cats will now have a chance to live in a clean, sanitary environment with proper care.

  8. Sheila Jefferson says:

Thank you..I believe this person has a good heart though and does not deserve jail time.
