Stop Strapping Monkeys on Dogs for Abusive Monkey Rodeo

Target: John Caracciolo, President and CEO of JVC Broadcasting

Goal: Ban the Banana Derby, also know as a monkey rodeo, from performing.

The notorious Banana Derby, or “monkey rodeo,” will soon be hosted in the Pennysaver Amphitheater, owned and operated by JVC Broadcasting. This is despite the derby having been cited by the USDA for violating the Animal Welfare Act. During the rodeos, a Capuchin monkey is strapped to sprinting dogs. The show is cruel and unnecessary.

Philip Hendricks, the exhibitor for the Banana Derby, has been cited multiple times for failing to provide enough proper, nutritious food, and adequate space for the animals. When these monkeys are not caged and being carted around the country, they are forced to perform. During these “performances,” the monkey is left with no control and is jerked around as a dog stops, turns, and sprints. It is not uncommon for injury to occur during this event.

Sign this petition and demand that the Pennysaver Amphitheater ban the Banana Derby from performing.

Dear Mr. Caracciolo,

The Pennysaver Amplitheater is hosting many acts as it is the location for this year’s Brookhaven Fair. One of the acts, the Banana Derby, is a cruel spectacle that straps a small, defenseless monkey to a powerful, fast dog. The show is inhumane, unnecessary and reports indicate that it often results in injury to the monkeys.

When the Capuchin monkeys are not trapped in their cages and being carted around for shows, they are strapped onto a dog that is trained to make sudden stops, quick turns and run fast. The monkeys have no control, and the jerky movements appear to be painful for these small animals. The exhibitor for the Banana Derby, Philip Hendricks, has been cited multiple times by the USDA for violating the Animal Welfare Act. He has been cited for keeping the monkeys in too small of cages and for not providing proper, nutritious food.

Please consider canceling your plans with the Banana Derby. These monkeys belong in the wild, not in overcrowded arenas suffering for human entertainment.
