Applaud Social Media Wildlife Conservation Project

Target: Jason Holmberg, developer of ‘Wild Me’

Goal: Commend the brilliant idea of engaging conservation and social media

A profound conservation measure has recently been developed – one that is sure to captivate the hearts and minds of thousands of people. Jason Holmberg has developed a social media website titled ‘Wild Me.’ This website gives thousands of endangered species a profile that can be followed by the general public. This development could be just what conservation needs to gain necessary and life-saving awareness.

‘Wild Me’ is a social media website, with a layout similar to that of Facebook, where individual animals are tracked by GPS, and given a biographical representation. Scientists post pictures, videos, facts and personality traits of individual animals for the public to see. Human members of ‘Wild Me’ can friend animals and follow their everyday activities. GPS trackers will allow people to see exactly what their favorite animals are up to, and where they are traveling. Some of the animals featured on ‘Wild Me’ have names, and all have a defined personality and purpose.

This medium of interaction is extremely positive: it encourages people to become involved in these animals’ lives, and fosters emotions such as empathy and joy for particular animals and species as a whole. As noted by a conservationist: people want to be involved in conservation, but are disillusioned on how exactly to pursue conservation efforts. ’Wild Me’ provides a familiar and comfortable plane, in the form of social media, that encourages direct involvement with species. ‘Wild Me’ will hopefully be a launching pad for many people; this could make a conservationist out of everyone who visits. What a wonderful world it would be.

Dear Jason Holmberg,

You have possibly created the most effective platform for encouraging conservation. Your website, ‘Wild Me’, is an amazing development that will allow the general population to become directly involved with species, endangered and stable alike. ‘Wild Me’ is a genius idea because it takes away the sometimes confusing and unattached details of conservation; it instead presents conservation in an exciting, easy to navigate and familiar manner.

I thank you for developing this amazing website. I look forward to tracking animals such as Pringles and Stumpy: two whale sharks with personalities and agendas as big as they are. The GPS feature is fantastic; with it, I can follow a polar bear across hundreds of miles, or discover animals that are literally within five miles of where I am.

I hope that this petition brings many people to your profound social-media website, and more importantly encourages many to get involved in conservation where they live. Thank you for your positive influence; I, and the animals, thank you.
