End Illegal Ivory Trade in U.S.

Target: Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner

Goal: Save wild elephants by ending the illegal ivory trade in United States

The United States sent a strong message to ivory traffickers last November when it destroyed nearly six tons of illegally imported ivory. Unfortunately, while the U.S. has made it clear that it will not support ivory trafficking and other crimes against wildlife, more than 30,000 elephants were slaughtered for their tusks in 2012. Despite the country’s opposition to ivory importing, many of the tusks of these murdered elephants will still end up in the U.S. as carvings and other trinkets.

Elephant poaching in Africa and Asia has reached crisis levels in recent years. The increase in poaching activity is not only threatening the populations of wild elephants, it also supports a criminal industry that is responsible for the death of more than 1,000 wildlife rangers.

Thankfully, the U.S. can help save the lives of wild elephants and the wildlife rangers that work to protect them by creating legislation that bans the importation of ivory and cracks down on the criminal organizations that attempt to smuggle it into the country.

By signing this petition, you are thanking the U.S. government for taking a stand against the ivory trade and encouraging Congress to support legislation that bans illegal ivory importation and puts an end to wildlife crime.

Dear Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner,

First, I would like to thank you for your recent action against the importation of illegal ivory. By destroying nearly six tons of illegal ivory, the United States sent a strong message to the criminal networks that smuggle the tusks of murdered elephants into our country.

That said, more than 30,000 wild elephants still lost their lives at the hands of poachers last year. By cracking down on wildlife trafficking and enacting a moratorium on the U.S. ivory trade, we can help save the lives of animals and also stifle the actions of a corrupt criminal organization.

I urge you to create and support laws that help prevent the unnecessary murder of wild elephants, punish the poachers and traffickers responsible for their deaths, and stop illegal ivory from being imported and sold in the United States.

  2. Stephen Murphy says:

How long before there are none left.

  3. renee jeanine ragno says:

To own even the smallest piece of this says to all that you’re unethical, immoral, selfish, cruel, a piece of…, a coward w/o honor, heart, a disgrace worse than those who butchered, slaughtered the poor animal.

So why in the world would anyone want to?

BOYCOTT anyone who carries this. Make this illegal but also enforce stricter consequences. Poachers should be treated as they’ve treated the animals. And if those countries won’t do something……….BOYCOTT in all ways, hold funding or use that funding to hire mercs to protect them and enforce the conequences.

  4. Stop the illegal trade of Ivory. Stop killing the elephants it is unnecessary, stop being so DAMM greedy!
