Praise Clothing Store for Protecting Rabbits

Target: Stefan Persson, Chairman of the Board for H&M

Goal: Thank clothing retailer for halting its production of angora products

Fashion retailer H&M has halted production of products using angora fur after discovering the horrible circumstances the rabbits endure at their factories in China. Several other European retailers who utilize the same factories have also halted production. The treatment of animals in fur and leather factories in China has become widely known and a retailer as large as H&M taking a stand against it deserves our gratitude.

A group of undercover investigators with PETA released the footage that led to the decision, which shows rabbits at a farm in China screaming as their fur is being ripped from their skin while they are still alive. In response, H&M will end the production of its angora products and offer refunds to any customers who wish to return products that contain the fur. It will also begin an investigation into the practices at its farms and make sure that in the future such incidents are prevented. The company made a statement saying, “We only allow products made of angora rabbit hair from farms with good animal husbandry.”

Sadly, this is a common occurrence in fur farms in China because they have no laws or punishments for animal cruelty. Thousands of rabbits are skinned or plucked alive every day. It is one of the most inhumane practices in the world, and animal rights groups have determined, there simply isn’t a way to do it in which the rabbits are not tortured in some way. But perhaps with so many high-end retailers responding to the investigation, including Sweden’s Hennes & Mauritz, angora fur farms will become a thing of the past.

PETA is urging consumers to pressure other retailers in the hope that this does become a reality. Please sign the petition below and thank H&M for taking the lead on what nothing short of an atrocity. If enough retailers are pressured, or at the very least made aware of the horrifying conditions that produce their products, these farms will fade away and rabbits will no longer be tortured for something so insignificant.

Dear Stefan Persson,

You recently halted production of your products that contained angora fur aver a PETA investigation led to the discovery that the rabbits at these farms were having their fur ripped from that while still alive. Sadly, these are circumstances that inhabit all fur farms. There simply isn’t anything humane about the fur industry and circumstances are often worse than this.

Thank you for taking the lead and showing the world and other retailers that you will not allow animals to be treated this way for the production of your clothes. Hopefully, enough retailers from around the world will also halt production of similar goods and the fur industry in China will become a thing of the past.

  1. Imagine being tied up and skinned alive, animals feel horror and pain in the same way as we do.

  2. Sheila Jefferson says:

    Thank you!!! 🙂

  3. Thank you all for doing this for the animals that have or will suffer. I have seen the videos of the animals where their fur is being ripped out of their skin. People say that animals feel NO PAIN, well they do just as you and I do. People say that animals can’t love, well they do just as you and I do. THANK YOU all again for being kind to animals, it means a lot to some of us humans and the animals that suffer.

  4. lyudmyla Andrukhova says:
