Commend Humane Society for Protecting Neglected Animals

Target: Wayne Pacelle, President of The Humane Society of the United States

Goal: Commend the Human Society for rescuing animals from a neglectful owner

The Humane Society recently seized 92 rabbits, 25 goats, 10 cats, 21 chickens, four dogs and a duck from a property in Franklin County Missouri. The animals were living in squalid conditions with no protection from the cold. The goats were suffering from respiratory illness and the rabbits were living in kennels that were piled high with feces. The Humane Society has been involved in many such rescues of abused and neglected animals and should be commended for its ongoing commitment to direct intervention in cases of such clear animal abuse.

This marks the second time that the Humane Society has intervened to save animals from this particular property in the past four years. In February 2010, 150 sick rabbits were seized from the same due to neglect. Despite the evidence of abuse to these animals, a Franklin County Judge has ordered that the animals be returned to their owner. However, so far the Human Society has refused to comply, seeking only to protect the animals from further abuse. The Human Society must be commended for its heroism in standing up for the rights of animals even in the face of legal pressures.

The neglectful owner was charged with 21 counts of misdemeanor animal abuse because of the treatment of the animals. Thankfully representatives of the Human Society were able to step in and rescue the animals. This is merely one example of how the Human Society has been able to directly intervene in a clear case of animal abuse. It is important that those of us who believe in the cause of animal rights commend the Human Society for their actions.

Dear Wayne Pacelle:

I wanted to commend the actions of the Humane Society in its defense of abused and neglected animals throughout the country. The Humane Society recently seized dozens of animals from a property in Franklin County Missouri in order to save them from an abusive and neglectful situation. I am very impressed by your organizations role in this rescue, and wanted to encourage you to keep up the good work.

I realize that in this particular instance a judge ordered that the animals be returned to the owner, despite the clear evidence of abuse and neglect. I am pleased that the Humane Society stuck to its principles and stood up to the legal system in order to prevent these animals from being abused even further. All of us who hold the cause of animal rights dear owe the Humane Society a debt of gratitude for it’s sustained efforts to further our goals for the humane and just treatment of animals everywhere.
