Help save the Caraway pit bulls

Target: Caraway city counil,

Regulating dogs on basis of breed or physical description does NOT reduce dog bites. Most importantly, studies continue to show that one kind of dog is no more likely to threaten or bite a human being than another.
The American Bar Association has urged the repeal of all BSL. That White House also opposes BSL and released a statement saying “research shows that bans on certain types of dogs are largely ineffective and often a waste of resources”.
NO major national organization endorse BSL, including American Veterinary Medical Association, the Centers for Disease Control, the Humane Society of the United States, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Communities against BSL are implementing policies that hold all dog owners responsible for the humane care, custody, and control of their dogs, regardless of breed or appearance. Building safer and more humane communities requires multifactorial approaches, not quick decisions. Focusing on improving ownership and husbandry practices, better understanding of dog behavior, education of parents and children regarding safety around dogs and consistent enforcement of dangerous dog/reckless owner ordinances in communities.
Suggested ordinance below:
Exempt service dogs
Grandfather in family dogs with restrictions:
*register and license their dogs-within 30 days of ordinance
*file with information An pic of dog
*NO more than 2 in household
*proof of rabies
*owner/handler must be 18 years of age
*must be leashed when outside of kenneled property.
*leash no more than 6feet long
*when outside home must be in locked fencing/kennel supervised by owner/handler
*must be confined indoors
**no person shale sale, barter in any way of these dogs within city limits

  1. Lauren Hayashi says:

Crap, I accidentally signed twice. Ms. Potts, I wanted to mention a few errors in the petition which you might want to fix. I apologize if this seems nitpicky, but I’m only saying this because legislators, even backwards ones like what you apparently have in Caraway, will take a document less seriously if it is full of errors.

    sterilize (needs that extra i)
file with information AND pic of dog
proof of rabies vaccination (rather than proof of rabies)

    Hope that helps. Best wishes.

It is a violation of the Fair Housing Act if they apply a breed ban to an Emotional Support Animal or Service Animal, not matter what Breed it is. We can help protect your housing rights for free.
