Don’t Host Circus That Allegedly Beats Its Animals

Target: Douglas Podiak, Director of Lucas County Recreation

Goal: Stop the Lucas County Recreation Center from hosting Garden Bros. Circus unless it performs without its animal acts.

Despite an extensive list of Animal Welfare Act (AWA) violations, Garden Bros. Circus is still scheduled to be hosted by the Lucas County Recreation Center in Ohio. These troubling violations include failure to provide veterinary care for open wounds on a camel’s leg and for a sheep’s fractured leg. In addition, Zachary Garden, the manager of Garden Bros. Circus, allegedly beats his animals, withholds food from them, and forces injured animals to perform. Garden Bros. Circus currently exhibits its elephants through Carson & Barnes Circus, which is also notorious for abuse and neglect. Carson & Barnes’ head trainer was caught on tape beating his elephants with bullhooks and shocking them with electric prods while the animals screamed and yelped in pain.

It is time to stop supporting this cruel form of entertainment and show Garden Bros. Circus the public doesn’t want to see wild animals suffering any longer. Sign this petition and demand Lucas County recreation Center cancel its plans with Garden Bros. Circus unless it performs without its animal acts.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Podiak,

The Lucas County Recreation Center is planning on hosting Garden Bros. Circus despite its bad reputation in regards to animal welfare. No animal should suffer for human entertainment. It is time to stop supporting this unnecessary cruelty.

Garden Bros. Circus appears to neither respect its animals nor care about their well-being. The circus has violated the Animal Welfare Act for numerous issues including failing to provide proper veterinary care for injured animals. In addition, Garden Bros. Circus currently exhibits its elephants through Carson & Barnes Circus, which has also been accused of animal abuse. The head trainer was caught on tape beating his elephants with bullhooks and shocking them with electric prods as they screamed in pain.

Please consider canceling your plans with Garden Bros. Circus unless the company agrees to perform without its animal acts. These animals belong in the wild, not in crowded arenas performing ridiculous tricks for humans.

Sincerely,

[your Name Here]

LEAVE THE ANIMALS OUT OF YOUR CIRCUS!
CIRQUE DE SOLEIL HAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL SHOW…WITHOUT ANIMALS, NOT EVEN ONE! Be more creative and find other ways to entertain people without the use of animals – you’ll be respected and praised for such a wise decision!

  4. Animals do NOT belong in circuses! They are NOT here for our disposal, entertainment and even food! These are living breathing creatures that feel the same things we do!

With all due respect Mr.Podiak has your head been up your ass? I’m from South Africa and I know of the notorious Garden Brothers Circus and their disgusting track record of animal abuse! And just to bring you into the the new millennium: animals are no longer used in entertainment. In order for them to be taught tricks and routines they are regularly beaten and abused. Ok? Are we clear now?

  6. Susan Mertins-Jones says:

Circuses DO NOT need animals to be entertaining – check out Cirque de Soliel!
Stop the horrible lives these poor animals are forced to endure. This is one of the worst forms of animal abuse going on still.

  7. Wild animals weren’t put here to amuse and entertain humans. We have plenty to entertain us without subjecting wild animals to unnatural acts, fear and terror.
