Demand Melha Shrine Circus Go Animal Free Again

Target: Al Zippen, Melha Shrine Circus Chairman

Goal: Demand that the Melha Shrine Circus keep animals out of their show like they promised to do in 2016.

In 2016, the Melha Shrine Circus announced that to “keep up with modern times” they were dropping animal acts from their show. But when the 2017 run of the circus arrives, it will feature both elephants and tigers.

They decided to bring back the animals due to a significant decrease in attendance and interest. Chairman Al Zippen said that 2016 was the first year the circus lost money. However, money shouldn’t matter when it comes to the safety and well-being of these animals.

Many circuses across the country have come under fire the past few years and have been struggling to stay afloat because they continue to use animals. Many animals experience torture and other cruel acts daily when they spend their lives working for a circus. Most prominently, Ringling Bros. Circus announced it will be closing down after this year after more than 100 years in operation.

Circus animals are deprived of living normal and happy lives when under circus control and more and more people are becoming aware of that. This is why circus attendance is declining and adding animals back into the show at the Melha Shrine Circus is a cruel thing to do.

Sign this petition to demand that animals are, once again, removed from the Melha Shrine Circus and that this time the circus permanently follows through with the change.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Al Zippen and the Melha Shrine Circus,

In 2016, you received high praise for deciding to remove animals from your show. Now, just a year later, you have decided to bring back both elephants and tigers. This decision shows that you value money over the lives of these innocent wild animals.

Animals experience various forms of cruelty when they are used for entertainment and profit. Many circuses around the country are shutting down due to declining interest as a result of their continued use of animals. Adding animals back to your show will not pay off in the long run and it’s inhumane to torture the animals along the way.

We ask you to do what you said you were doing the first time and to, this time, actually stick with it.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. Doris Alpern says:

All the large circuses have seen wild animals are not the attraction any more. People know you torture these animals into submission. Follow the lead of Ringling Bros and others and let these animals go to a sanctuary.

  2. Kae Blecha, OTR says:

If I know my Shriners, someone took this Al guy to the tavern and got a few beers into him, and he went back on his promise to keep animals out of the circus. My husband is a Mason, and I’m a member of White Shrine. In our 50’s, we’re some of the youngest members of our groups. Keep this nonsense up, Al, and the Melha Shrine Circus will die with you, and it deserves to. Animal Rights are important to the next generations.

  3. Caryl Sawyer says:

What is it about Shriners? Every one of their circuses feature elephants and other animals. I thought they were better than this. I was wrong.

  4. sheila menache says:

Animals do not belong in circuses – let them remain in their own natural environment or else let them go to a sanctuary and live out their lives in peace with their own kind.
