Sentence Couple Who Neglected and Abandoned Animals

Sad Dog

Target: Chief of Biddeford Police, Roger P. Beaupre

Goal: Sentence Bruce and Kathleen Friedel for severely neglecting pets

A 61-year-old man was charged with animal cruelty when police inspected his previous property and found it in shambles. The animals that were recovered from the property were filthy, ill, and emaciated. It was obvious that these pets were severely neglected, and the man did nothing to keep them healthy. Tell the Chief of Police of Biddeford to help sentence not only Bruce, but his wife Kathleen for mistreating their animals.

An anonymous tip alerted police to a foreclosed property in Biddeford, Maine, where the caller said that a dog and possibly two cats had been left abandoned. When authorities investigated the foreclosed home, they were greeted by an overwhelming smell. Feces and urine were found everywhere, a litter box was overflowing, and there was no sign of food or water. An eviction notice told authorities that the previous tenants were Bruce and Kathleen Friedel.

Authorities found a black and white terrier dog mix on the property who looked emaciated and had red splotches on his skin and missing patches of fur. A tiger cat was also found. Like the dog, this one was emaciated and according to authorities didn’t look like it had been fed for several days. It also had a limp in its hind legs. An examination found that the cat had broken its femur in the past and it had healed incorrectly. When the dog was examined, a tooth fell out when the vet removed the muzzle — a result of advanced gum disease. The cause of the skin problems were due to yeast and fungal disease.

Bruce Friedel was charged with animal cruelty, failure to provide necessary sustenance, failure to provide medical attention, and failure to provide shelter. If Kathleen was living with Bruce when these crimes were committed she should also be charged. Tell Chief Roger Beaupre to make sure this couple is sentenced for the severe mistreatment of their animals. It was their responsibility to make sure their pets were taken care of, and they failed miserably.

Dear Chief of Police Roger P. Beaupre,

Your police officers recently charged Bruce Friedel with a variety of animal cruelty-related charges. I noticed that his wife wasn’t given these same charges. If she was in the household during the time of this abuse, she should also accept responsibility. Just because the pet doesn’t belong to her doesn’t mean she has the right to ignore blatant abuse and neglect.

I am writing this letter urging you to sentence this couple for their crimes. These animals were clearly not cared for, and I cannot say which animal was the worst off. It angers me that this couple was able to live in such squalor, and in doing so forced their animals to do the same. Provide these animals with some amount of justice.

  1. Even if possibly this subhuman is abusive towards his wife, too, you’d think she’d at LEAST stand up for the defenseless animals she faced and lived with every day, and alert someone as to their plight. Everyone should be accountable for what they do, AS WELL AS what they don’t do but still OUGHT to. Ignoring or covering up a known crime is also a crime, after all. That’s a moral imperative we ALL need to live by.

  2. Each one of the couple should be charged. In child abuse cases if the mother lets someone abuse her children she is just as guilty. When I was a child my father would beat me & my pets. I came home from school one day & he had beaten my dog so badly there was bloody feces all over the porch. He threatened to do the same to me. Mom would whine “but he’s your father.” Stronger laws can end the abuse sooner.

  3. Both are equally guilty and both should be in prison !!!
