Target: Gary Bertellotti, FWP Region 4 supervisor
Goal: Protest the approval of an inhumane commercial fur farm
Despite the fact that thousands of people wrote comments protesting the approval of issuing a license to a commercial fur farm in Montana, the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) Department has gone ahead and approved it anyway.
The Schultz Fur Farm has been approved for a license that will allow it to possess captive-raised bobcats for breeding and for selling their pelts in the commercial fur industry. The FWP said that it assessed the environmental and human impact from this decision and found it to be minimal. But that is not the point. On a moral ground, this is simply wrong and senseless.
Only 20 people wrote comments supporting the approval, while over 21,000 votes came in to oppose the decision. The overwhelming objection to this decision was blatantly ignored by the FWP. While the FWP has argued that this decision was made to help support the economy, it does not change the fact that so many voices were overlooked to support a cruel industry. Why even bother asking the public for their opinions if the FWP will blatantly ignore them anyway?
The slaughtering of animals for their fur is simply wrong and barbaric. These animals are being raised in captivity only for their lives to be ended when they need their fur. We live in an era where this is no longer necessary and it is cruel. Please protest this injustice by signing the petition below.
Dear Mr. Bertellotti,
I am very disappointed in the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for its approval of issuing a license to the Schultz Fur Farm. With over 21,000 comments disapproving this action and only 20 approving it, this decision does not seem to be made in good faith. The FWP needs to listen to the people and take their comments more seriously into account.
The issue is not only the fact that the FWP ignored all these comments in disapproval of the decision, but it is also the fact that the FWP is supporting a cruel and inhumane business. Fur farms are barbaric and should not be allowed to prosper in this day and age. Please stop this injustice and do not issue the license to the Schultz Fur Farm.
