Justice for Livestock Allegedly Starved to Death

Target: David S. McEachran, Prosecuting Attorney, Whatcom County, Washington

Goal: Punish dairy farmer accused of allowing nearly two dozen animals to starve for months on end.

A dairy farmer is facing charges of animal cruelty after allegedly starving his animals for so long that some died and others needed to be euthanized. According to reports, Seth Daniel Snook, 34, owner of Snook Brook Farms, starved nearly two dozen animals for over six months. Snook said that  he could not afford to feed the animals, yet local dairy farmers said that he failed to follow through with a plan to sell the animals to other farmers, who offered to pay the costs to feed and transport them.

Humane Society investigators seized all of Snook’s living animals, and found some dead ones as well. Two of the animals were so lethargic that they couldn’t stand for very long. Another young cow was found to be “skeletal and sickly,” according to rescuers. A pig was found dead of starvation. A necropsy revealed that it had been forced to eat garbage and dead animals to try to survive. Five of the animals were euthanized due to their poor conditions and the rest needed emergency treatment.

According to reports, Snook said he was aware that the animals were in bad shape. This points to deliberate negligence. He could have saved the animals by surrendering them to rescue agencies or even other farmers, but he allegedly chose to let them languish. For this, he should be punished. Sign the petition below to demand that he is punished to the maximum extent of the law for his apparent acts of cruelty.

Dear Mr. McEachran,

A farmer has been accused of allowing 23 animals to starve. Some of them had to be euthanized due to their poor conditions, while one pig died after eating dead animals and garbage in an attempt to survive. Those that did survive required emergency care. Investigators say that the animals had been slowly starving to death for up to six months.

This is unacceptable, especially considering that other farmers had offered to buy the animals and pay for their food transportation costs. Instead, the farmer allegedly allowed them to languish. We, the undersigned, ask that you ensure justice for these animals by seeking the maximum possible penalty for their accused abuser.
