Investigate Airline Accused Of Causing Excessive Animal Deaths

Target: Elaine L. Chao, United States Secretary of Transportation

Goal: Investigate major airline accused of causing majority of animal deaths on U.S. flights.

According to reports and statistics, more animals have died or come to harm on United Airlines flights than with any other major airline in the United States. While traveling with pets is definitely risky, within the past several years United has seen more animals injured or dead on their flights, topping off the list at one point with 14 deaths in 2015. Simon the giant bunny is a noteworthy death by the hands of United, and he is allegedly only one of many.

The Humane Society has warned against air travel with animals due to most being stored in the cargo and exposed to extreme temperatures, poor ventilation and rough handling. It is unknown whether these animals have died due to negligence on the part of the airline or by accidents or unrelated causes, but the numbers are not good. Air travel may not be ideal, but it should be safe for all passengers, animals included.

We must call for a thorough investigation of the airline and their practices involving animal passengers to ensure that the truth is found and that conditions will be improved to prevent future animal deaths. Sign this petition to help protect future animal passengers on United Airlines flights.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Chao,

Reports and statistics are showing that more animals have died on United Airlines flights than on any other U.S. airline, the most recent being Simon the giant bunny whose death made major news. The exact cause has yet to be determined, be it negligence on the part of the airline or purely accidental, but animals need to be protected on flights. It is risky enough to travel with animals due to the extreme temperatures and poor ventilation in the cargo storage.

You must thoroughly investigate United Airlines and their protocol when it comes to animal passengers. Too many deaths have already occurred, and we must take as many steps as possible to prevent future tragedies. There is only so much handlers and owners can do. It is up to the airline to keep all passengers safe. Investigate United Airlines, and if necessary, demand that they improve their animal safety protocol.

Sincerely,

Sure doesn’t make you feel good about shipping ANY animal by air!!!

The problem is that Trump’s cabinet appointees barely care about people unless they are millionaires or billionaires or “the base.” Anyone and anything else is going to have a very hard go of it for the next 3.5 years. The best way to fight Trump’s deconstruction of the nation and the protections painfully won for people, animals and the environment is to elect democrats in 2018. The biggest virtue of a Democrat is simply that they will fight Trump on almost any of his dystopian dreamland fantasy policies dragging this country into third world status.

    • I don’t have any special fondness for Trump, but I have no idea what that has to do with this privately owned airline’s terrible treatment of animals and people alike.

Anyway, I would never, ever, ever trust any airline’s cargo hold with my pets. Period. I’ve known for years that flying animals in cargo is simply not safe. It’s best to try and carry the animal on with you, and if that can’t be arranged, maybe just drive with your pet.

United Airlines – Until your safety records changes as it pertains to the transport of live animals, I will no longer use your airline to travel. I am going to ask my family and circle of friends to boycott you as well. In case you didn’t know, the Animal Kingdom are citizens of this Earth too; they have just as much a right as we do to live their lives on this planet, free from torture and murder at the hands of humans.

I have traveled with pets to and from Europe and Asia several times. Best Airlines to do it are KLM and Lufthansa. In any airline and regardless of circumstances, tell the pilot IN PERSON as you board the plane that there are live animals in the cargo area. They need to know in order to pressurize and climatize. Do not trust the long line of frazzled airline employees and cargo handlers to do it for you: You talk to the pilot face-to-face and tell him/her that Petunia (use the pet/s names) means the world to you.

  8. Doris Alpern says:

In light of your airline problems, please add this to your list of reforms. Our pets deserve humane treatment when we are paying for their safety on your airline. They are not just suitcases, but live, feeling animals we are trusting you to deliver just as safely as humans. Please look into this problem because the death of one animal is horrible, but 14 is unconscionably!!

  9. United airline also treats their passenger like crap so its no surprise they treat animals worse. Boycott the dam airline!

  10. The cause of these needless & preventable deaths defy common sense — Where’s the rationality & compassion!!! — How many lawsuits will it take! — this shameful, depraved negligence MUST STOP! — what’s more, THINK of the suffering these animals must’ve undergone.
